Our BGP mix of NTT, Zayo, Telia, Hurricane Electric and excellent peering over the Seattle Internet Exchange (e.g., Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Netflix, Akamai, Charter, T-Mobile, OVH, CloudFlare, Yahoo and more) enables us to offer dedicated servers with low ping times across the Pacific and the Atlantic:

Global ping test results provided by NTT and HE looking glass servers. These are optimal ping times. The routing and peering of your local ISP will determine your latency.

  • May I ask what the virtualization architecture of the dedicated server is?
Is it possible for me to request staff to import a VMWare image for me?

These are bare metal servers that come with IPMI access which enables you to mount any bootable ISO as a virtual CD-ROM and install any operating system or virtualization platform of your choosing. We'd be more than happy to mount VMWare on your behalf. It often works out better if we mount the ISO on your behalf because we can do so from a file-share on the same network as your server -- much lower latency and better performance.

Please let me know if I may answer any other questions, thank you!

  • Ordered a RepriseGGDED server about two weeks ago. It was deployed within 12 hours and I was happy with the location and server speed.

I logged in via SSH to verify the server and just let it idle.

Went back to check out the server this week and found it offline and unable to connect. I opened up a ticket and they said that my server no longer had an OS on it. When pressed, support provided confusing answers. First, saying that they removed the OS "because we found the metadata RAID partitioning activated on your server" but then later saying they didn't bring down the server and it must have been something I did.

    So, mixed bag, currently.

For the sake of transparency and disclosure to the LET community, I will summarize the issue you have referenced:

    • 10/28/2020 12:18AM - Customer order is placed.
    • 10/28/2020 7:15AM - Customer server is setup, login details emailed.
    • 11/9/2020 1:23PM - Medium priority ticket opened regarding downed server.
    • 11/9/2020 1:50PM - L1 support staff begins investigation, attempts power cycle.
    • 11/9/2020 2:55PM - L1 support staff escalates to L2 technician.
    • 11/9/2020 3:42PM - First L2 technician confirms that the server cannot boot, server does not appear to have any bootable drives.
    • 11/9/2020 6:10PM - On-site staff confirms drives are firmly seated and backplane chassis issues are very unlikely.
    • 11/10/2020 1:30AM - Second L2 technician updates customer that no bootable drives are present. Asks customer if he has made any recent changes.
    • 11/10/2020 12:12PM - Customer replies that he has not made any changes.
    • 11/10/2020 12:23PM - L2 technician replies that his server will require an OS re-install. Asks for permission to proceed.
    • 11/10/2020 12:27PM - Customer approves the re-install.
    • 11/10/2020 11:54PM - L2 technician responds with the new login details. Provides a theory regarding the source of the trouble -- mdadm metadata was discovered on the disk drive during the OS re-installation. This interfered with the ability of the server to boot from the drive.
    • 11/11/2020 11:47AM - customer replies that next time he would prefer to be notified via ticket before an OS re-installation.
    • 11/11/2020 12:04PM - Support reps don't understand the customer complaint. He was consulted for permission before the OS re-install began. Rep responds that there was no intention to bring down an active service.

In sum, the customer had an unusual disk drive issue. It was raised as a medium priority issue and was fully resolved within a day and a half.

This kind of issue could be caused by a bad OS install, an incompletely wiped drive or something that the customer did post-install. In this case, it doesn't seem like the customer caused the problem. However, in the vast majority of cases we encounter similar to this, it often is something that the customer did post-install. Our reps never asserted that the customer "must have" caused the issue -- it was merely floated as one possibility out of several. That suggestion seems to have offended the customer and for that we do sincerely apologize.

Most importantly, we sought the customers approval before initiating the OS re-installation and completed the re-install as quickly as possible once his approval was received.

Regardless of the root cause or blame, we would be more than happy to extend a service credit for the time required to resolve the issue. @rpollestad please feel free to contact us via our trouble ticket system regarding said credit.

  • Some things in life should be resolved in private I guess. Could have just said- issue resolved, system functional, client asked to ticket in for credit for his issues.
