Bandwidth Period vs. Billing Cycle

Hello to all members of LET!

Today we would like to talk about a topic which might be interesting for some resellers like us.

We are currently in a lively discussion with one of our partners and are a little surprised.

First of all, this scenario only concerns resellers who resell existing packages.

We take a VPS that was ordered on the 15th of a month.
The reseller does not use a pro-rata billing, so the VPS is charged from the 15th of one month to the 14th of the next month (billing period)

But now it is the case that the bandwidth period does not run in parallel, but that the seller resets it in the first month.

As a result, if the customer uses his bandwidth from the paid period, he will be suspended early and will not be able to use the VPS for the rest of the month (because the bandwidth reset will only be done on the first of the next month).

We are a little bit surprised because we work with a lot of partners and 95% either use the rule that payment period (15 to 14) is parallel to the bandwidth period (15 to 14)
or that the bandwidth or price is calculated proportionately (in the first month) and thereafter the payment period and bandwidths run in parallel (from 1st to the end of the month)

How do you manage that?

It's really hard to run out of bandwidth nowadays.

Boot the customer. She ain't worth it.

Have you sued your host yet? Do it now.

  • I've always thought of bandwidth limits as a "don't be greedy" limits. Unless you're dealing with a very exotic location, I don't think bandwidth is a huge issue.

  • its depending on the Bandwidth Limit on the packages we resell..sure...10 TB is harder to run out as 500 the problem is releated to small packages like 500 GB or 1 TB.
