  • I have my own self-hosted music solution, it's called a folder and I have 310 .mp3-s in it. What more would you like to accomplish?

Save storage on my phone.and possibly share it with few friends

  • Put 2GB worth of MP3 in a compressed folder and upload to WeTransfer?

Any Linux or Windows vps with 2GB ram, HDD or SSD to hold OS and library and unmetered data would work

  • Some open source music stuff here:

Not sure about Android, maybe an app could work alongside something on the list.

  • Subsonic? (freemium)
    Libresonic? (free, fork of subsonic)
Airsonic? (free, fork of fork of subsonic)

    i use airsonic + Dsub/ultrasonic client on android. :)

I love these but sadly they seem to be on the way out by all the flagship phone makers :'(

  • airsonic, funkwhale, and a few more that I can't think of their names. They all have clients for smart phones.

I used to use airsonic for a few months and I soon found out it was a real hassle for me to manage the server and upload music. I ended up subscribing spotify after the server expired. I'd suggest you just stick to those streaming services like spotify and pandora, even if you have already bought every single piece of music you want to listent to. You get much much better expierence with those polished music streaming services.

If you unintentionally downloaded all your music from the Internet for free, and want to put them in a cheap house on the cloud, you can try some docker images with airsonic. It's easy to set up. You can play around with it for some time then decide if it is for you.

  • Without having to run your own server you can just upload your music to Google Drive or something and use CloudPlayer: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.doubleTwist.cloudPlayer&hl=en_CA&gl=US

Unmetered for audio streaming is unnecessary.

Know of any that could do streaming from Box? I have free 50GB account and the 250MB file limit doesn't mean shit to mp3's so it's perfect for 28GB of music.

  • Wtf Plex pass costs 120 usd for lifetime? Is it even worth it specially when we are getting alternative like jellyfin for free?

Its very worth, bought 2 years ago for $75

  • Navidrome or Emby

  • Try Emby, I have been using it as media server on VPS. Works well with videos too the media encoding comes handy along it

I have a very neat setup:

    1. Get a Windows 98 computer and install WinAMP to play all the music continuously.
    2. Connect the output of the sound card to the input of the MODEM with an AUX cable.
    3. In HyperTerminal, configure the MODEM to answer calls automatically.
    4. Plug in the telephone cord.
    5. Call your landline from your mobile phone whenever you want to listen to music.

https://mzunguhosting.ml/ has Windows 98 plans available. Contact them to see if you can get a MODEM included.

Have you tried Jellyfin as server?
There is an official app (for music & videos) and Gelli (only music player) for android. Gelli is quite new and I am missing features like saving an album for offline usage, but it's already on the roadmap.

Edit: All are open source and free.
