VZ Type: KVM
RAM: At least 512MB
Disk Space: At least 10 GB
Disk Type: HDD / SSD / NVMe
Bandwidth: At least 1TB per month
Port Speed: At least 100Mbps

You do realize how far Vancouver is from your target locations right?

    Of course.
Currently I tested the Vancouver looking glass from VPS.net, and it perfectly fit the latency and speed requirements, but it is beyond my budget.

Vancouver will be hard to come by, especially within your budget.

OneProvider's "OneCloud" offer a Vancouver, BC location - but perhaps Seattle would be better what you want, could you try the same tests to Seattle, It's only ~150 miles away.

Basically @freerangecloud could be worth to try.
They are offer services directly out of Vancouver.
    LG: http://van.lg.freerangecloud.com

I would definitely recommend them, great people, great service. :)
However they are currently encountering some issues with the customer area so I am not sure whether/how they are accepting new orders right now.
But if your tests with their looking glass look promising, feel free to contact them.

Thanks, but we are targeting just Canada right now...
We already got a VPS in Los Angeles for United States, so we think that might be enough.

Thank you very much! The latency seems to be meeting our requirements, thus we are going to test network speed in the mentioned three locations.

  • They are a little bit away from Vancouver but you could try https://www.lunanode.com/

  • Toronto and Vancouver a little bit away from each other? LOL

I imagine they don't really want US location when sending traffic to Iran...

Seattle is hands down better than Vancouver (cost and latency wise), so it could only be political.

I live outside Vancouver. My traffic to Vancouver datacenter goes through Seattle, so latency is higher to 45 km away than something like 300km away.

Same here, all goes through Seattle, then Vancouver, so like a traceroute Edmonton -> Calgary -> Vancouver -> Seattle -> Vancouver

Yes it is for political reasons. According to my friends in China, servers in United States are frequently blocked while Canadian servers are less targeted.
Really if I choose I would rather choose Los Angeles, but all servers in United States are frequently targeted, so I can't use them.

  • Let's go for Vancouver with OneProvider, KVM cloud! :)

    Freerangecloud.
EDIT: seems they are not taking new orders?

Their $3 and $4 tier don't provide enough data transfer...

Maybe try to reach their support! They are usually cool about this kind of requests ;)

To get network speed of kilobytes per second?

Ended up with Seattle to serve Vancouver better ;)

Thanks for tagging us in guys. For a limited time, We've been offering our $15/yr microvps in Vancouver. It has 512MB RAM/16GB disk/1TB monthly transfer. Shoot me a DM for an order link if interested.

As mentioned, our Vancouver LG is http://van.lg.freerangecloud.com for latency/speed tests.

Thank you! We are conducting our speed and latency tests on various locations, and now it seems to fit our requirements as well!

We conducted our tests and here is what we've got for average ping latency of Vancouver server from FreeRangeCloud:

    The Middle East
Turkey (around 2200km away from Iran): 210.5ms
Israel (around 2400km away from Iran): 203.4ms

    PR China
    China Unicom: 218ms
    China Telecom: 204ms
    China Mobile: 230ms

    East Asia
    Hong Kong: 154ms
    Japan: 132ms
    South Korea: 184ms

    North America
    Los Angeles, United States: 39.5ms

    All looks good enough!

Sorry for the thread bump but are you still doing this? If so, how much longer? Would you be able to trade some disk space for more monthly transfer?
Am located in Vancouver and may need one to set up a VPN to bond two different ISPs, as Telus has been dropping a lot lately...

Who’s your primary transit provider in Vancouver? Any reason why it goes to Seattle via Cogent to Telus?

This is something we can offer, shoot me a DM about specified bandwidth requirements.

In terms of routing, our primary upstream is Cogent with with bit of HE.

The large Canadian ISPs are notorious for having poor interconnection policies so I'm not too surprised the handoff happens in Seattle. I have a buddy in Calgary who get's routed via Seattle to talk between Shaw and Telus in the same province!

That's a bit frustrating, I'll have to reconsider first. Telus does appear to route locally (IPv4 via Cogeco Peer 1, IPv6 via HE), at least to your looking glass but the latency appears to spike quite often.

Did you drop Astute Hosting transit? Or is that this traffic tends to prefer these routes more? Your website still shows that you have it (and Astute has Shaw transit)...

In Vancouver our upstream is provided by Cogent and Astute Hosting.

Oh, yeah we'll have to get that page updated. We haven't had Astute for a while now.

  • There is https://dedimax.com/cloud-server/ but they are in Beauharnois which is far away from Vancouver.
