Linode uses Corero, you should be in good hands.
Hmm that's bad experience :-(
What’s the issue with OVH??
While he is right, you should know that he sells both, the poison and the cure.
Octosniff for the ddos kids in xbox/psn to resolve user IPs and OctoVPN to protect against such attacks. Being a VPN provider, he probly knows his stuff when it comes to anti-ddos.
DDoS protection is a general term. Naturally an appliance based protection, like Corero and others will struggle in dealing with legitimate packets containing say HTTP flood from legitimate, but potentially compromised, sources. You need something that will inject some captcha-like to distinguish between bots and humans, to protect from certain attacks in L7, so basically a reverse proxy, even more so if you're doing SSL.
Naturally it's equally not sustainable to offer a custom, labour intensive mitigation tailored to the specific Customer needs on a few $ per month service. SoC engineer costs hourly couple dozen times more, so one has to be reasonable in their expectations.
Not exactly an issue with OVH, but their SGP offering isn't enough for my usage already.
I'm just maxing out the Server CPU, so I want more CPU power.
Currently using this: https://www.ovhcloud.com/asia/bare-metal/enterprise/sp-64-apac/
Personally think it is kind of challenge collapsar attack.
You may need some software on server to filter or improve your website system.
Cloudflare challenge page is a good example.
Nope, it's not an attack.
Just legit traffic.
I disabled some intensive feature to lower down the CPU now like Real time thread content/alerts.
Those features are notorious for having no SQL indexes. I've spent many hours over the years helping users optimize their setups because MySQL/PHP were chewing mountains of CPU and it was all because people don't INDEX columns properly.
Francisco
Another MYSQL intensive task is Push Notifications, but it's a must have feature also .
What kind of attacks do you get?
Yeah. You need to use a real queue if mysql is choking on your ghetto queue implementation.
Decided and purchased https://www.leaseweb.com Hongkong Dedicated Server.
I hope I'm still on good hands specially on DDOS protection.
