not really, noone steals anything, but im just wondering how do you want to pay for something (local virtualisation of mac os x) if its simple not possible in a legal way on non Apple Hardware..

You either do it on Apple HW, which is perfectly possible, or you don't virtualise if it doesn't work for you, it's as simple as that.

right so you definition of "its not free" just means "buy a mac", cus thats kinda a different answer..
cus even on a mac you can virtualize mac os for free

In order not to **** your mac sistem while learning is better to virtualize .. it's free, this was my point, sorry for misunderstanding.

Did you check the pay as you go option? It's cheap and efficient. Unless there is something else you plan

why everyone chooses hosting services based on the price factor, I think features and quality services only thing which does matter. so you should try to find reliable, responsive, and highly featured services at affordable prices.

Because someone have price constraints. :)

    You could look at https://github.com/foxlet/macOS-Simple-KVM
Maybe a provider will try this for you, maybe you can get a virtual machine that supports nested virtualization and do it yourself.

Don't know if it works though, as I do not have a Debian hypervisor to test.

And break Apple's EULA in the process? Hell no. (the part where it says that MacOS should only be run on Apple hardware)

  • NDTNNDTN Member, Patron Provider, Top Host

Apple only allows virtualization on Apple hardware, that's why the macOS VPS pricing is not cheap. The cost for a MAC Pro is at least 3x to 4x of a server with the same specs, not mention that it needs 4U colocation space to compare with 1U server.

    You can try https://github.com/myspaghetti/macos-virtualbox

Performance of Mac OS on virtualBox is not that great but its okay for testing/learning stuff. I would suggest KVM for better performance.

What difference is there in hosting on a Mac? I can't say I've ever really come across a site that was clearly or obviously hosted on a Mac. Would it end up like using MAMP?

  • @scooke said: I can't say I've ever really come across a site that was clearly or obviously hosted on a Mac. Would it end up like using MAMP?

I've used remotely hosted macs for development and other mac related work when I'm on a Linux box. Most people wouldn't use a mac for hosting their websites but will use it to access XCode or other mac related applications.

We can do mac OS VMs in Fremont. They're not currently on our new website, but it runs down to about $12.99/mo for 2GB RAM, single core, 50GB SSD.
