What is a VDS? Why only $0.79/mth?!

I came upon this site https://hostvds.com/
$0.79/m for 1GB plan but not much reviews about them.

What is a VDS? I have a couple of OpenVZ and KVM. Is VDS any diff?
How can this provider do so cheap!

  • I came across this site as well and was wondering the same thing. It requires you to make a deposit before you can even see any of the information. I was sketched out by the whole process so I ended up not paying, but would love to hear from someone that has used them before. I am especially interested if the $0.79 a month plan gives you the option to pick Dallas, Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Bangalore, and Moscow.

VDS is a Virtual Dedicated Server. Basically it’s a VPS with dedicated resources/no overselling.

But I agree with @james50a if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

Yeah, no TOS, no company about, and as @jamespeach mentioned, like it just wants your CC info to "activate" the account. Hetzner does something similar, but there isn't even any info on the company, so stay away.

They do take PayPal as well, they seem to accept almost anything, and you can deposit any amount. I can't tell if its a scam, or just poorly designed and translated.

I can't press that button within their CP, so it might just be a poorly designed site. Surprised they created a whole new one rather than using WHMCS/Blesta/Clientexec/Hostbill....

Considering the price, the result is pretty acceptable. I'll keep monitoring the server and see if the uptime is good.

Thanks for taking the plunge! Sad to hear it's only Russia, that's the only one I didn't want.

Same experience with @dedipromo, I topped up $2 (+0.3USD via stripe), the reason I'm signing up is to try Hong Kong as advertised, but turn out only Russia available. Crap.

No ticket system available, you have to email them

And this is yabs for 2GB instance:

I was looking for a cheap development VPS yesterday and also stumbled upon hostvds.com site. However, I didn't even receive the registration confirmation email and considering all that other guys have mentioned above decided to pass.

Instead, I went with AlexHost that offers KVM 1.5GB RAM, 10GB SSD for 1€/m with yearly payment and appears to be a registered company in Moldova. The server just got provisioned so I can post bench if anyone interested.

  • So just an aside, I bit the bullet since I was looking to move some stuff from Aruba. Cheap enough that I figure a few bucks if it turns out to be garbage isn't too bad. One thing is that they do seem to have a "security group features which is really helpful for me. The IP address returns back RU as intended but seems to be something with "CloudBackbone" which only seems to correlate to Huawei's network offering?

It has nothing to do with huawei. generic wording.

I didn't think so, since Hueawei doesn't have a presence in Russia. Just trying to figure out who's running the show. For now, looks good and is up. All I can ask.

Yeah, sure there will always be people mocking a very cheap offer by running Tor exit. This is why we do not deserve nice things. The end is nigh on this one.
