Which configuration is better 1 or 2 vps?

Which configuration is better:
1) Install WordPress and the database in a single VPS (2vcpu, 4gb ram, 80gb ssd, $20/month)
2) 2 VPS (1vcpu, 2gb ram, 40ssd, $10/month) one for WordPress and one for the database.

Beside the time that you need for setup, optimization and maintenance of just one or two servers, is there any differences, improvement or better performance on any of these options?

I would just go with one machine.
If you need to scale later put it on multiple machina.

  • As long as the latency is low, it shouldn't be much of a performance hit to go over the network to get stuff from the database. However, it's most likely better to have a single machine that either the web server or database can have the ability to have double the resources. Assuming the IOPS isn't an issue.

Honestly depends on how quickly you think it will expand. If you think it will expand quickly then go with two boxes. If not then stick with one.

you can use cloud VPS instead of multiple machines.

  • have you considered three?

Congratulations on your first post in this topic.

  • First One good but all depends on your traffic and location

  • One server so that you can use unix pipes instead of network stack to get the two to communicate. Much faster
