GreenCloudVPS NVMePromo VPS review

So I got a NVMePromo VPS from GreenCloudVPS as prize via LET Provider Poll 2019 thread.

It has 2 core/4 G/20G NVMe/2TB on 1Gbps port, not bad since it's free. Some datas from test:

 ## IO Test

 CPU Speed:

   2nd run : 1.2 GB/s
   3rd run : 1.3 GB/s
   -----------------------
   Average : 1262.9 MB/s

As you see, the performance of CPU and IO is very good, maybe because the node is still empty, time will tell.

Though I got some issues:

  • have to open ticket to enable CPU passthrough.
  • IPV6 not working, have to open ticket
  • only few OS templates and ISO images, the quality of OS templates are not very good, debian 9/10 take forever to boot, and it print some weird message when you connect to the server via VNC, apt full-upgrade solve slow boot issue seems.
  • So I try install OS via network, couldn't enter iPXE command line via ctl+b, ask support, told not allowed.
  • ask support to upload mini.iso from debian.org, be told custom ISO also not allowed...

While the performance is good, the support is fast response, not sure why install OS via network or custom ISO is not allowed, because it's free or lack confidence?

  • How can you complain about something that's free?

  • So you can't review something because it's free? if that's the case, AWS/Google/Microsoft/oracle all has free plan, maybe everyone should just use them quietly...

this review is quite positive. it's just weird that net install or custom ISO is not allowed, I have had VPS from more than 10 providers, none is like this...

  • amazing

    Hello,
Thank you for the review. We offer both Windows & Linux VPS and would like to keep them separated for best performance. Most of the time people will ask for Windows iso to be uploaded, that's why we do not support Custom ISO on KVM VPS, , it also requires more admin time.
We do have Debian ISO via SolusVM, so in your case there is no need to upload your requested ISO again. I will ask our Techs to take a look at the Debian 9 & 10 templates.
    Thanks!
