MXRoute (not free, but cheap and reliable) and instead of forwarding email to Gmail, set up Gmail as a POP3 client. Set and forget.

Dammit, I hope I don't lose my Rackspace 50k free account. But I know I'm going to :(

  • I might just use Mxroute if @jar is ok with that,

Apparently I've sent 100 or so automated/transactional emails in the past 30d and I'm pretty sure most of those were zabbix telling me something broke.

Excellent service if you're looking for something inbound for your domain.
No outbound service though. But you could use Gmail to "spoof" the mails outgoing. However, the spamminess score will be somewhat higher than on a well-configured mail service, like MXRoute, because they lack SPF and DKIM.
And your mail, where all the inbound stuff gets forwarded to, is being published publicly on the internet through your TXT Record.

Can thoroughly recommend them for this case. I have MXRoute as outbound SMTP for my Nextcloud, and their service is fantastic.
All mails are getting delivered. No spam issues. Insane IP reputation.

So curious, are they going to grandfather existing users?

No, they aren’t. That’s the worst part

    $0.80 for every 1,000 emails

Still not bad for 10K Emails a month tbh. $8/mo or less. Meh, I will survive. I mean for a mail relay, this is still cheaper for me without all the headaches.

Amazon SES better than any other, cheap and very easy to setup, not for redirect but for sending emails out.

This is why a company should never offer anything for free.

People are never grateful for free stuff they get.

'free' users are great for young and rising company.

    They beta test for free.
    They report issues.
    They recommend features and ideas.

And those three elements are what took @LadyDoc down.

    Good job.

  • Mailgun's Google partner offer don't stopped.

    Hello David,

Thank you for contacting Mailgun support. Currently, the google service plans are still available at the same rate as they have not changed.
If this does change in the future you will be notified in advance.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Regards,

I've just asked them about the rackspace plan too, since that was a plan they had when they owned Mailgun, I have my whole body crossed :joy:

MXRoute probably works for low-volume transactional mail, but I'm terrified of getting suspended considering how great of a service it is. I don't necessarily want to risk my account by sending myself a hundred transactional emails through some sort of a bug or overzealous email trigger. :(

    Off to SES then.

Honestly the only way you'd be scared of it is if you believed the word of actual spammers or the people who believe the stories they spin. I know intentional spam from accidental, out of control scripts, etc. If you've got a script out of control or an accidental spam situation going on, I'm gonna try to target exactly that and halt it, nothing else.

Basically I watch this for spikes:

    https://metrics.mxroute.com/d/84vE1GTZz/rspamd?orgId=1&refresh=10s

When a spike comes along, I head over to Kibana to see the top 10 list of senders/subjects. I'll run to the logs to see what IPs are sending them. Is it a single server that's erroring out or compromised? Is it a distributed attack from hundreds/thousands of IPs sending spam that has no contextual relation to the domain owner? Things like that. I'm pretty good at it, you don't need to fear me :)

See that spike this morning? A long time customer had a compromised email account. Typically I'd suspend its outbound and email them. In this case it had to be more because that email account has been compromised 4 times since November and the spam their attackers send is of the highest consequence, but that's not common. Letting a legitimate customer go is one of the hardest things for me and not something I'm looking to repeat any more than I have to for the sake of every other customer.

Yes. IME using a shared IP the deliverability of SES is way better than Mailgun, so if paid then I rather use SES.

  • someone uses?

I really like them, especially since they re-write the from: address of the sender. Helps with DMARC-protected domains. Their DNS-based configuration is really cool too.

once my mailgun credentials were compromised and that spammer sent around 20,000 emails before i read warning email about quota from mailgun and i was charged some amount.

its better to pay some money than being suspended.

but if it is thousand...donno what to do.

Famous last words, and probably the worst policy you might want. It's always better to be suspended than being charged in an amount you might pee on your pants and dash to LET creating a PMS thread titled, "I've been charged by X,XXX USD by a XXX company. SCAM!"

    We've all seen it sometimes.

Only if you like buying new a new domain every time it happens, or don't care about your domain/IP reputation, is it better to pay than have that single compromised email account's outbound suspended.

If what you send is THAT important that it's better to pay thousands than have outbound temporarily suspended on being compromised (a suspension only for outbound on that single email account or a password change for their protection, which the customer can lift on their own after resolving it), it's worth it to you to go the extra mile to NOT have the account compromised by sharing passwords, running it on Outlook 1997 on your Windows XP machine that you browse porn on, etc. But if what you send is truly THAT important, one would think your domain reputation matters, and that halting your outbound spam would be a huge favor to you also.

If you'll forgive me, I think it is a horrible decision that it's better to pay money than have outbound spam from your domain halted. Money doesn't make Microsoft or Google ever put your domain into inboxes again. These events cause permanent damage to your domain that you cannot repair.

If you think I just suspend their whole accounts and all email stops working, it's a shame that you made such an assumption rather than ask. Imagine if Mailgun emailed you and said "We saw clearly unintentional spam going out so we halted the spam, but your account is otherwise functioning normally, and you can undo what we've done to stop the spam from the control panel when you are ready." That's part of the service I provide. Only if you repeatedly show a disregard for your own security by having the accounts continually compromised, over and over again, does it escalate beyond that (which is a story only 3 customers since late 2013 can tell about MXroute).

Looks like Mailgun aren't getting rid of the Rackspace plans either, that has made me a happy Panda.

  • +1 for MxRoute !
