Hetzner auction servers price increase

edited December 2019 in General

Looks like Hetzner is getting super popular. https://www.hetzner.com/sb

Their 4x4TB offerings started at 35 EUR and is now 47 EUR.

Some servers are now "fixed price" as well. But for 1 Gbps unmetered these are still pretty competitive.

Edit: This doesn't seem new. Archive.org reports changes since December 19. Woops lol.

Supply and demand, the less they put into sb, the higher the price.

They selling i7's even still working hardware on ebay, so they shorten the supply on purpose.

Nothing else is expected, besides the price to rise up.
But @Hetzner_OL, one thing you need to explain to me, why do I still see Athlons?

Why do some people still use Windows 2000? Windows 2000??!? How about Windows 3.1?

How is performance ? What is the NVMe used?

  • Didn't notice any significant changes tbh, besides of some models being sold out and not listed there anymore.

All fixed price servers I could find (except one) are core i7-9xx which are massive power hogs anyway.

This btw. Time to throw those straight into the trashcan and free up some space for real servers

  • If one says it has a 10G NIC, does it still have the 10G dedicated uplink?

Looks like you need to purchase the 10G uplink for 39 EUR,. which comes with a 10G NIC.

sb34 should be $34. This is the way they name their product line.

sb34 is 34€ including german tax
so 26$ for sb34 without tax makes sense

  • So actually sb33, but yes $26 and change, no vat since in us

I'll do my best to respond here to some of the comments in this thread:

fixed prices: Yes, we have introduced these for some models. These are the absolute lowest prices that we can offer on these models because of things like energy costs.

increased starting price: No, to the best of my knowledge we have not increased the starting prices for models. However, the prices may seem higher because of increased demand.

Athlon models: We still offer these models because there is still demand for them. And they still work. Plus, if I remember correctly from uni, environmental experts recommend using electronics for as long as possible to minimize e-waste/pollution. These presence of these models are not preventing us from adding others to the auction.

    Which ones?

@webcraft - If you just go to the Server Auction main page today and scroll down, you'll see a few Intel Core i7-975s, for example, at a fixed price. --Katie
