Picked up the 4cpu deal, how could I not lol

Is block storage offered at all in the buffalo location?

    edited October 2019

We only offer those Storage VPS in three locations right now: NV, VA, and IL (VA temp out of stock). Will be adding to TX and probably CA next, and possibly NL. No plans in NY/NJ region as of yet, as bandwidth costs much higher for us currently...but that can change.

  • Can the add-ons be purchased afterwards?

    Yup.
Probably even can do more resources than order form lists now, we just didn't add more larger options, as we rolled this out quick. Let us know if anyone wants something bigger, at the same upgrade sliding pricing scale as upgrades already listed.

I can save you some time, you can. I am currently setting up containers on my Proxmox as I type this. If you're referring to KVM in Proxmox, that also works. The "vmx" flag is passed through - also referred to as "nested virtualization"

You must have installed via Debian first? I'm looking to install the Proxmox installer myself. Correct me if I'm wrong but the iso wasn't listed when I checked?

Nope...but we have added it upon request, so it is listed in the ISO's now.

Ah yeah, I forgot to mention that I installed Debian 9 first and then installed PVE on top.

  • Can I take a long time cpu usage, or just fair share with some limitation?

General rule of thumb is don't abuse the node and don't affect other clients.
We try to let things be, but may have to migrate you to a different node more appropriate for your usage level,
Hard to say without seeing your usage pattern.
But if you plan on pegging every single vCPU non-stop, then this is probably not an appropriate usage pattern for us.
Have realistic expectations and I doubt you'll have a problem.

pretty smooth ordering & installation process, feels snappy enough though I am not seeing CPU passthrough at the moment (on Los Angeles node) - will put in a ticket to see if that can be accomodated.

                      hypervisor lahf_lm kaiser

even without cpu passthrough, Geekbench v4 is still clocking in at just a hair over 9000 for 4 vcores ... which is nice :) https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/14854969

Yes, open a ticket for us to apply.
I am guessing you selected ISO install when ordering, which doesn't apply the setting, unlike using our pre-created templates...which do.
Just a quick setting change to update your VPS though...

Updated the few that did not have it...reboot VPS (not O/S), and should be good to go...let us know if not.

    @cybertech - yup, well over 9000

    https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/14855027

single core is a modest yet respectable 2856

but the 4 vcores really come through at 9735

obviously this node is not yet fully populated - I kept an eye on cpu steal time during the geekbench: steady at 0.0 for the single core, flickered up to 0.1 just briefly twice during the multicore bench

expecting it should still be in good shape when I test it again in a few weeks or months

I actually do have a couple applications in mind that can use the ram and the occasional cpu grunt

totally psyched this offer came at a perfect time to be put to use on that project

    EDIT2: And here's the geekbench v5 https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/471895

Just heading out for a drink myself...been a busy day! ;-)

Plenty of stock available still, and we'll be adding more nodes gradually over the next week or two anyways...as these cancellations are taken down and then converted to KVM nodes.
