[Dev] FreeBox - Can I get a test and review?
I wanted to give to the low end community! I've loved this community for years and I had some extra resources that I got for a decent deal, don't get charged for the extra electricity, and am filling my hobby. Donations welcome but otherwise 100% free.
Give the free boxes a test and tell me what I could do better. Feel free to upgrade Debian as well haha.

I want to try..
This can't end well.
Updated VM deploy timeout from 30 minutes to 5 minutes to reduce the output of "Waiting for VM timeout... please try again later"
How so?
People here are just looking to abuse it. They don't give a f if cpu mining is obsolete, they will do it.
duckeeyuck, good luck to them I throttle the processes CPU usage xD They're not gonna get far.
Prediction: The link will be shared to some Chinese forum and someone will get 100 of it and sell them for 10 RMB each
Good thing that someone can't just repeated smash that deploy button and just create 100 of them lol
You will be surprised how far they can go for the extent to get free stuff. Photoshopped license and IDs, fake company letters are not unheard of.
Good to know, I will keep a close eye.
This guy again
Now that's some premium spam.
Just raising a warning flag based on his earlier pattern of behavior, but the OP (@Pentium44) will no doubt face bigger challenges anyway.
(Oh, I remember, you're the guy who pretends to want to defend people and then runs away. Right.)
Aww, it's so cute that your remember me. I can't recall the incident but i'm sure it might have occurred as i'm quite lazy. Tho i mostly blame it on LET's notification system!
Now, what am I suspected of? Or @FloydStan ?
Face bigger challenges as?
We are just worried you'll get the public IP banned if you let scammers in or worse if you let people host something more illegal (botnet, terrorism promoters, suicide, child pornography).
Distrotest does something similar, but they block internet access and gives the server for a limited time for testing. Maybe you can look into it? https://distrotest.net/
Shit! I know.
I really appreciate the information @somik !
@Pentium44
I took a look at your site. On second thought, it looks like you know what you're doing and that you won't be caught off-guard. (It's just tricky to offer something free in this corner of the woods.)
Yeah, I'm still developing and adding on top of it. I will also be doing some work with my personal distribution to replace SliTaz & Debian with something a bit newer but restricted to only a few uses (FTP, HTTP, etc). I'm also doing some work for internet activity logging per VM.
None of my SSH clients support the protocol the micro VM is using, so... looks like it'll be idling for a while.
Are you on windows? I normally use Bitvise SSH Client. Maybe give it a try: https://www.bitvise.com/ssh-client-download
@somik
Nope, macOS.
Add this in between your SSH command:
-oKexAlgorithms=+diffie-hellman-group1-sha1
Example:
ssh -oKexAlgorithms=+diffie-hellman-group1-sha1 [email protected] -p 10122
Thank you @FAT32, old ass version of dropbear doesn't play well with newer versions of openssh lol. However, I have just updated the website and VM list. I will be removing all VM disks, and I highly recommend using the new free VM. Ships with a current version of Alpine Linux, and is light yet easy to use.
Current VM specs are set to give every user the same opportunities. Also allows me to allocate more VMs with what's available.
OS: Alpine Linux (current)
RAM: 128MB dedicated
CPU: 25% of 1 Xeon E5649 core
Vdisk: 10GB
Qemu KVM emulation
Regards
Had set up a 'slitaz' VM early in the morning, but the alpine one is cool too. Except for having to correct 'apt' to 'apk' every time.
@Pentium44 are you looking for specific BM/ type of feedback? nench and bench ran well, YABS gave the following error which I suppose is not a deal breaker.
on nench, got the flag:
dd: sequential write speed
[disabled due to missing GNU dd]
Nginx setup was easy, well documented, port forwarding (ssh, http work well). Did not try 'extra', irc or Minecraft. Stuck with sftp for now.
Other than the un-learning and re-learning which was rather quick, not too much to complain with alpine. I might have accidentally created a second panel- number 52 I believe, apologies, you may terminate that to free up for someone else.
Thanks
Is IPv6 supported?
