Direct Admin Ate My (Hamster) Disk Space

Got a notification that my DA instance was down at Inception and after a bit of investigation, I discovered that 12GB root was full.
Now, repeated broadcasting (and subsequent blocking) of the noisy neighbours (a pet peev) have saturated server logs. The default logrotate isn't harsh enough to limit disc space but deleting/rotating made a negligible space increase.
Step up DA..

/usr/local/directadmin/plugins/custombuild/logs
.. cb_plugin cb_plugin 9432461533 Aug 13 20:36 1565609809.18264.log

That doesn't help! Of course there are (smaller) other logs too.

I guess I'll check some other instances.

Moral of the story: keep a beady eye on your disc usage/logs (especially DA?)

    EDIT: @mods A 9GB log file isn't of concern?

  • It's not clear what you're complaining about. You want less info to go into logs or you want more aggressive log pruning?

What period was covered by 12GB of logs?

What was the problem that mostly filled the log and did you resolve the issue so that the log wouldn't grow as large so fast?

If you're trying to ask DA to do something differently, please state:
    1) the problem
    2) what you did to resolve it
    3) what should be changed in the future to avoid said problem

If you submitted what you posted in a ticket, nothing would get done and a second response would be needed to understand the problem. Need way more details if you really want action and a solution.

    Assholes who broadcast across networks.
Runaway processes that fill disc space.
    1) Obvious
    2) Delete the f'king file!
    3) Don't warn anyone to look out for this.

Log was created/completed in one day.

/closed due to lack of interest.

Yeah I'm still not sure what the point was, these things happen. Do you require a medal?
