Is the KVM running on 1gbps port or 100Mbps?
And do you have any test IPs?

    1Gbps port.

Test IPs are listed on our DATA CENTER DETAILS page.

Test IPs are listed on our [Data Center information page] (http://www.smarthost.net/data-centers.php?ims=letvps).

You might wanna have a look at the page you just mentioned. Shows up empty.

FYI - http://www.smarthost.net/data-centers.php still does not work. You need to use httpS instead of http - thats when it actually shows up. So you might want to add the "s" in the link in the post. So instead of http://www.smarthost.net/data-centers.php use https://www.smarthost.net/data-centers.php

Also if you use cloudflare - just set "force https" to on, so it fixes all issues automatically for you :-)

Yep. Just saw the same. Weird, worked on all other links except that one, and typing URL directly was fine as well. Anyways, updated the post to https and all is fine.

    Thanks for pointing that out!

    No problem, it happens :-)

Last question (I promise :P ) - for your bandwidth - do you count in + out, out only or whichever is higher?

    Currently configured for IN+OUT.
SolusVM allows for either or both, but not highest of.
If it is a problem for you, let us know, and we can work something out...we are responsive and pretty flexible as long as requests are reasonable.

Welcome to LET...where many folks need lowest specs to run OS to achieve the lowest price possible. Those resources will run Windows, just not a ton else on top of it. Additional RAM and disk is not that expensive to add.

  • How much for an extra gig of RAM on the KVM server?

We charge $2/month per GB of RAM added OR per 10GB of NVME disk space added.
System is designed with $2.95 base plan, and you can customize all resources from there right during ordering process.

KVM-Linux comes with one CPU "thread". Does this mean one CPU core? Is there a limit on how much computation I'm allowed to use? (most other providers have something like "no more than 80% in 1-minute average")

    Is there native IPv6?

Can I run Nextcloud for personal use?

    Can I run VPN server?

  • SmartHostSmartHost Patron Provider, Veteran

    VPN and Nextcloud are fine.

Most locations support IPv6, except for NY/NJ/UK (working on that).
We do provision our VPS with IPv6 at the available locations.

CPU limitation will be set to the core, but we refer to it as a thread as you will not be permitted to use 100% of the core constantly, while 50% average is not typically a problem, and our CPU cores have two threads per core. We really do not overload our nodes, and we have more hardware available than we know what to do with right now, so we're being lax on drilling down CPU limitations. Just don't do really bad stuff and don't be a pig about usage, and you'll be fine. :-)

  • For what it's worth I got a VM and am very happy so far. Network speeds are pretty good, have not had any issues yet. CPU is fairly slow, but at $2/core - its not that big of a deal, as I can always add more.

Support was pretty fast to respond to any questions that I had.

With that being said - I really hope this is not a summer host, although it is the end of the spring..

    Fingers crossed for now :-)

    Fair enough.

Just finished up a 4-year stint with one of largest non-profit healthcare companies in the US, running Data Center operations for their entire enterprise. Recently left following a merger with a larger provider, and now at SmartHost full-time and pushing it hard. Prior to that, I was the original founder of BurstNET (one of oldest US hosting companies, and one of first VPS providers in the market), prior to being forced out by investors (and them running it into the ground within months). BurstNET hosted 8,500 Dedicated Servers, and 30,000 VPS at it's peak in 2013. Learned alot from that operation, and taking the good from it to SmartHost, and correcting some of the negatives and leaving those behind.

SmartHost owns all of our server infrastructure and some network equipment, and contract for Colocation at Data Centers we select to utilize. We do not resell VPS from cheap servers rented from low-cost sources. Our primary business is actually Dedicated Servers with a heavy resale/wholesale focus.

We are sitting on capital after a recent growth fund influx, and looking to grow quick via organic sales and via acquisitions:
https://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/156837/looking-to-acquire-vps-cpanel-shared-reseller-dedicated-server-companies - "Looking To Acquire VPS, CPanel Shared/Reseller, & Dedicated Server Companies"

That should more than clarify that SmartHost is not a "kiddie/summer host"... :-)

I have been looking for a server since AlphaRacks acquired WootHosting and service went downwards almost immediately.
I ordered KVM-Linux from this provider, paid annually. I'm pleased so far:

    • OS and package installation is faster than on a physical machine with HDD, because this server is NVMe.
    • IPv4 comes from DHCP. IPv6 is available, although it needs manual configuration in netplan.
    • They have live chat support, which helped me sorting out the IPv6 problem.
    • I'm not restricted to OpenVZ templates and can have Ubuntu 18.04.
  • Oh, Burstnet, that's long long ago, at that time, VPS was basically 128M.

  • Good to see a technically experienced and mature provider after a very long time on LET. @SmartHost, wish you good luck  with your sales... hope to see you around for long

Thank you...glad you were pleased with our service.

Keep in mind, that was due to ISO install. VPS is set for IPv6, at sites that we support it, by default, and automatically configured if you use our preconfigured templates...
