The problem I have as you see the above is I/O speed between SSD drive and SATA mechanical drive are the same, less than 100 MB/s; and that's about HALF the speed I have in other drives in any other servers.

mind your language. what if he answers "yes", you'll feel bad now wouldn't you?
he owes you nothing! all he did was trying to be helpful and messed up the format of his post in the process.

Stop with the moral policing, and the snow flake act.

If he is capable enough of running a benchmark, he should be capable enough of formatting his posts without having a spaz attack.

Also, if he were to answer 'yes', I'd ask him to start posting under adult supervision, if he can't get the basic tagging / markdown right across 7 fucking simultaneous posts, without feeling bad.

It could just be a Cloudflare derp. looking at his post history, this is not the first time. Oh well.

Welcome to the community @yongsiklee .

Next time use the 'code' formatting option when pasting terminal output. (select your pasted text and click the big C in the post editor.)

As you can see from the above well followed coded posts, I/O speed of a ssd drive and a hdd drive is about the same and it is slower than an average mechanical drive from years and years ago. What seems to be causing the drive speed cut off by more than half here?
Is it motherboard, or aging hard drive?

Welcome to the community @yongsiklee .

Next time use the 'code' formatting option when pasting terminal output. (select your pasted text and click the big C in the post editor.)

Believe it or not, I have not noticed the editing formula on the top until you said "the big C," and I thank you for the kind advice.

mind your language. what if he answers "yes", you'll feel bad now wouldn't you?
he owes you nothing! all he did was trying to be helpful and messed up the format of his post in the process.

Stop with the moral policing, and the snow flake act.

If he is capable enough of running a benchmark, he should be capable enough of formatting his posts without having a spaz attack.

Also, if he were to answer 'yes', I'd ask him to start posting under adult supervision, if he can't get the basic tagging / markdown right across 7 fucking simultaneous posts, without feeling bad.

    good to be you! :)

Check with support ( they're super helpful). It could be some configuration issue but they'll get to the bottom of this. The SSD should be doing 4-5 times better.

I'm hoping to grab two of those when they become available again....selfishly hoping you resolve the problem and post a new benchmark :)

So it means you do not have to be obsessed with a ssd drive as it will run as slow as a mechanical drive from 10 years ago due to the bottleneck of the cpu?

I found this article about cpu speed and hard disk i/o speed and I wonder what contributes to much lower i/o speed of the server disk drserver is offering with:

"Processor architecture does not inherently affect disk I/O speeds, nor does it affect memory access speed. Generally speaking, it only affects the amount of memory that the system can use. Disk I/O speed is determined primarily by the physical properties of the hard drive or SSD itself."

And this is the bench of the new one I got from the latest promo-look at the i/o speed of the drive at the end. it is even LOWER THAN an SDCARD:

    I/O speed(1st run) : 71.7 MB/s I/O speed(2nd run) : 66.9 MB/s I/O speed(3rd run) : 69.5 MB/s Average I/O speed : 69.3667 MB/s

I still love the server though since I am using it for my backups.

DD is not disk benchmark utility. It is tied to single thread and if disk is not limiting factor it will produce result what your cpu can produce. This is super visible with DD especially because it is pinned to a single thread.

So modern day Atom with its single thread will most likely be far behind modern day Xeon with higher clock and more cache.

Disk wise, We use Intel (Dell branded) enterprise SSDs or original Intel enterprise drives. Speed what they are able to achieve is way higher than stated above, but for already mentioned reasons, you will not be able to get it with DD.

However, if you are having hard time living with this, here is my suggestion, start multiple DD-s at same time and pin each DD to its own core, then combine results. Repeat that until you max your SSD drive.

    Thank you
