Performance is pretty shocking, AMD Opteron. Seriously? I understand this is a free promotion but is this hardware used on paid cloud services?

What's wrong with AMD's server grade CPUs?
Disk performance maybe slightly under par at the moment as we have multiple VM's being deployed.
Again, Sequential write tests are a very poor test for typical applications. Our storage is clustered which means we get a write penalty for writes. Much better off looking at latency.
Not sure on the point regarding the CPU's Is there a particular extension you need for your application?
+1
@EaseVPS
Do you use E7 servers or what? And what you expect for free? (Or at LEB price range) ¬_¬
Exactly.
@EaseVPS If you have any specific perfromance issues with you application please log a ticket with our helpdesk and we will be more than happy to assit you
I have nothing against AMD in particular but it is not the best model of CPU.
We use a mix of E3-1230 and Intel Core i7 2600K(Desktop Proccessor, I know).
What?? Desktop processors in a hosting company???
Yes, is the same, no argument ¬_¬
We are not claiming to have the latest and greatest hardware. What we have is a highly available environment with no single points of failure. We watch CPU ready times closely across our cluster to make sure we are providing the correct level of service.
I am not saying our environment is suited to all applications, specifically applications that require fast sequential write performance.
Again if you have any issues with real word performance regarding your applications let us know and we will do our best to help
All slots are now taken - Sorry
@vmhosts
I will stop bitchin' now.. I got this with no damage in my pockets so I am happy. :-)
Your network is excellent.
Could you run ioping test, sequential write tells nothing.
Servers are located in BlueSquare Maidenhead UK. We use 1Gb/s uplinks but obviously virtual machines are throttled back
@vmhosts
Who did you colo those with, synergy? Just wondering since we are considering them at the moment.
And i also agree, you will find some in fact quite a few AMD servers bechmark higher than Xeon's, its only a name.
We also use AMDs as do many others.
@VMPort
Just throwing this out there. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=[Dual+CPU]+Quad-Core+AMD+Opteron+2352
I have nothing against AMD, I just have a personal preference of Intel.
@EaseVPS - You need to get over the AMD 2352 processor. Agreed these are not the latest and others out there may offer better performance.
On a LEB machine with 256MB RAM I have a feeling the bottleneck is going to be somewhere else.
I could also argue an oversubscribed server with improved processors will result in worse performance than virtual machines running on our environment. We are geared towards availability @ a price which isnt through the roof.
If you have any real world performance issue with your application please open a ticket
@VMport we purchased our racks from C4L. They have an excellent networking team and would recommend them. I have a contact that is open to negotiation, PM me your email address and I can put you in contact. As far as I am aware though they only have full racks available at the moment
This
And thanks for being polite, in you shoes I could start to rage xD
@vmhosts do you allow VPN?
and btw guys im one of the few lucky to get one. ill post test results later for those who crave for them
@yowmamasita feel free to install a VPN. We just ask you only use the service for legal activities.
Look forward to your feedback - Please be aware though we are not going to win any number battles on sequential writes We are all about availbility, consistant performance and friendly customer service
ioping results
@youmamasita Use "pre" tags
Thanks, that worked
Well as we can see, sequential io is really their waterloo, though i understand that the node might be busy this time as new vms are being deployed
