help choosing dedi for a seedbox

IpDoIpDo Member

Hi all,
I need to setup a cheapish seedbox.
I rather have a box to myself than share a server with loads of leechers / seeders.

ideally I'd take the Kimsufi KS-1, but that one is never in stock.
so I've narrowed it down to:

  • Kimsufi KS-2E for 10€ (+10€ setup fee) with 100Mbit and 2TB.
  • Online.net Dedibox® SC 2016 for 9€ (+20€ setup fee) with 1Gbit and 1TB.

the speed boost on the Online.net one seems a fantastic boost.
Dunno if I'll use more than 1TB of space so no extra pointers there.

help me pick one (or throw another one to the lot).

Thanks!

I did not have a good experience with online. Eventually they start cutting down on network speed. It would drop down to Kb/s at some point. They fixed it after I opened a support ticket but went bad again. Had this happen several times. Gave up after using it for a year or so. That's it, I am done with them.

11€ without setup feed at OneProvider which is from online.net with 1TB @ 2.5Gbs might be a option for you: https://oneprovider.com/dedicated-servers/paris-france

  • @Sven, from what i can tell - oneprovider.com are resellers for Online.net so in 10~ months the setup fee will cancel out with the price bump

  • go for 1Gbit

  • OVH seems to be pretty relaxed on things like this, not sure about Online.net, but that port speed could definitely help.

  • I have mine with Oneprovider and am very happy with it....

  • I use online for more than 3years. And nice. I advise you to choose 2 harddisk with raid. Its make your torrent fast download.

  • Only "Green G3900" provide 1Gbit network.

  • if you deal with copyright material go with kimsufi.

or dedibox sc 2016 for more speed.

    kimsufi works great

  • I really like the SYS ARM servers. They won't be worth it if you're streaming anything, but they're great for upload/download.

OVH is not suitable for this purpose. They took and did the same as in Hetzner. If you distribute the file then an automatic abuse comes:

So, as long as we don't distribute it, it's okay ? I am thinking about usenet.

@Vova1234 well yeah, continuously seeding a popular game will end up just like what happens when you seed a popular movie release.

Interestingly will do in the future torrent as in cryptos where there would be addressing not by IP, but by open and private key?

If it's OK has way to many aspects to give a straight answer. What you should do is learn the difference between torrents and usenet and make an informed guess on what to do then.

From what I hear, they serve you a warning once, then don't even care after that.

@huntercop Pretty sure if you ignore the abuse emails they will block the IP via anti-hack.

They only contact you once. After that, they never forward another abuse letter to you. In rare occasions people get in trouble, but that's when legal action is pursued or if the content was considered too high risk for the host. Yes, they have a risk tolerance.

@huntercop Maybe it depends on the content and abuse rep, because I've had a different experience where they require followup on DMCA.

How about saving but not sharing ? a.k.a PLEX
