    Custom? Secsy.

  • Am I allowed to install a hosting panel (eg. VirtualMin) to manage FTP accounts for multiple users while some of them may put simple websites on it? Or only FTP allowed and no website?

How many stars in your bowl? How many sorrows in your soul?
  • @seriesn said: Custom? Secsy.

Yes, it's custom made by myself.

You can install a hosting panel to manage your FTP accounts, no problem.

Actually I mean if websites allowed.

BTW, already ordered one, the control panel is cool :)

EDIT: And I think NFS server is allowed?

The control panel and the website are absolutely stunning. Would've been all over this if it could be used as a regular VPS, but I don't have nearly enough data to warrant getting one solely for backup, despite the very tasty offer.

Best of luck with this, might check it out again in the future.

How do you get the $7 price? clicking the order now link you posted shows it as $20.

  • @lurch said: How do you get the $7 price? clicking the order now link you posted shows it as $20.

The promocode GOTMEADEAL will give you $13 recurring discount at checkout. It's automatically added when you click the link.

PM or send a ticket and I can probably do an exception for you if you won't use it for torrenting and stuff.

Please click Checkout and you'll see the promotion code is already entered and the total recurring price is $7/month

Really tempted to take one of these, but will have to drop another plan or two first - how limited is this promo?

Probably will last a week or two. I'm planning to run 250GB at $7 then.

If you are not going to seed/leach movies etc or use it for public, then it's allowed.

Hope you don't mind me asking this, but how are you planning to monitor the running programs inside a KVM container? Or are you going to sniff the network for available services or something?

I've developed a tool to get process list of a KVM VM. Also doing snort.

what's the point of having 512MB of memory if it's a storage only machine?

@alex said: what's the point of having 512MB of memory if it's a storage only machine?

Because why not? It gives you breathing room to run any control panels you may want.

Network seems to be good, was able to transfer 20GB+ within 10 minutes, from FlipHost.

@alex said: what's the point of having 512MB of memory if it's a storage only machine?

    I kinda wondered the same.

  • @alex, @nikc, there are issues with RAM amount lower than 512MB when installing Centos or Openfiler with KVM. That's why we are offering 512MB ram to make everything smooth.

This also gives you breathing room to run web GUI's within the server like openmediavault as @mojeda mentioned.

    It looks like proxmox :)
Very cool offer :) Too bad it is so far :( My network to US doesnt go much over 4 MB/s and this will make mounting live drives a bit of a pain.

    This make me confuse.

    Which the best..
Openfiler, FreeNAS, Open Media Vault and Turnkey Linux Fileserver?

Get Backup / Storage VPS (40% Off Discount: 40PERCENT) | OpenVZ & KVM (Fully Managed) / Shared & Reseller (Free Dedicated IP) | $3 Reseller (50% Off Discount: letbestreselleroffer), Low latency to EU, US and Asia Optimized (affiliate links)

  • Freenas is a beast, I use it mostly for the raidz feature, but has all protocols you can dream of.
Openfiller comes close and is linux.
The other two i never tried, didnt feel the need having freenas and OF as alternatives.

FreeNAS looks like a lot of fun. I grow more tempted by this offer by the minute...

  • I came across this several times

    502 Bad Gateway

    nginx/1.1.19

    And

@Nekki said: FreeNAS looks like a lot of fun. I grow more tempted by this offer by the minute...

FreeNAS currently fail to be installed, confirmed by Mr. Kilic. But I believe that won't stop you to register backupsy.com

  • @perennate - it is, works better and faster than SkyDrive (which routinely spikes my CPU)

  • @serverian Transfer from your test server to Buyvm Las Vegas looks good.
    (8.04 MB/s) - “100MB.test” saved
    (7.25 MB/s) - “1000MB.test” saved

Like others. I'm thinking this would be a great mirror target for the buyvm storage vps, using Bittorrent's new Sync utility.

How do I go about determining transfer rate in the reverse direction?
PM you a http link? or has someone on this thread already determined this transfer rate?

  • @opskode, yes, please PM me a link and I'll check it for you.

@opskode I have bought this service so can do a test transfer for you if you send me the link

  • @Noerman, the FreeNAS issue has been fixed. It seems it doesn't recognize virtio drivers. Let me know if you want to install FreeNAS.

For anyone debating purchasing/interested in trying Backupsyy out, I no longer had a use for mine and rather than requesting a refund I asked @serverian if he'd create a promo code so someone can get their first month of KVM250 on me (then $5 thereafter). First come first serve, promo code is V5FY83RR1K (1 use). Once you use it, you'll need to create a ticket and get the price manually adjusted to $5 (instead of $10).
