How do you host your small projects?

Hello,

I have the issue that I start too many projects, then shuts down some, get bored, and starts some new. The issue is that every time I do this, I buy web hosting at Alpharacks. Sure, it's cheap but it's not really worth buying a year, having to log in, paying with Paypal, get a whole new cPanel account. Therefore I plan on getting a reseller plan for my projects, are they are that's really lowend? If so I've missed it. What's your go-to for starting up sites? Are you buying a web host each time, or do you have a reseller package? Maybe even a VM?

Honestly, @Francisco / buyshared are great

    https://buyshared.net

Other than some early teething issues I had (which have been long sorted now) its rock solid. Would recommend the reseller packages any day

I'm very aware of buyshared, are you buying web hosting separately or do you actually have a reseller to start and end projects how you want?

I've got the $2/mo reseller (looking to upgrade soon) that I play about with. It makes creating and destroying accounts easier being able to just jump in to WHM at any time, and means I just have one subscription for the lot

  • Get a hosting package with multiple domains allowed.

There's better ways to do this. The best way above all is to get a plan that allows unlimited domains or sites. Another much more affordable DIY option is to get a VPS and run Virtualmin, and set up multiple accounts if that's what you want.

If you one a cpanel account for 1 Domain, I did just post a cyber Monday freebie. See link below.

  • 12$/year reseller. Does this work for you?
    https://genhost.in/cart.php?gid=46

10 GB Space, 50GB Bw. Unlimited everything else.

If not pay a dollar more per month and snag Buyshared Reseller for 24$/year.

I'll go with CodeAnywhere.com and then I go with INIZ if it's resource enough on shared host. Or maybe taking an vps from (RamNode/HostUs/anyNode) if I need more resources.

  • You could also see if Heroku fits your needs?
    https://www.heroku.com/

  • Depends. Low traffic, no income projects I manage by myself I host at basic shared hosting. As longs as you can add multiple domains that's fine. For projects where others are involved I have a reseller package. I'd recommend buyshared for this. Affordable and shit just works.

For projects a bit more serious I tend to spin up a VPS as it gives somewhat more control. Depending on the project I may or may not install a CP to manage the server.

Long term serious stuff I host at either a KVM or a dedicated server so I'm sure I can use all resources without bothering the neighbors.

  • Get some vps. Learn a bit of unix. Host as many sites as the box can handle. Obviously depends on the nature of your project but as you say they are small "as many" should be a lot even on a cheap shit vps.

mind giving their ip to ping?

  • You should get a reseller account so you can split the cake in many pieces and do it many times.
Moreover this server should be in the same country as your customers or visitors for better experience, or you have to configure a CDN to serve the pages and improve your SEO.

I'm no customer there atm and I dont remember the TestIP. You can ask them I guess. Or just open a trial acc.

  • I have a template for virtually everything. I just setup the templates (if new zone/website/etc), hup the services to have the new info read, and make it live.

I'm a bit more interested in seeing @Neoon's workflow. It intrigues me that he's using Proxmox to do one of the more inane tasks.

Well, since a long time, the humankind, is searching for a away, to keep a ZNC bouncer online, even when OVH takes a shit.

I guess I am on the way, to solve that issue.
