    30

  • We deploy 60 per 32GB/E3.

  • depends on what the specs are.

  • @BradND, @GetKVM_Ash at what average load you stop deploying?

    /27 or /27 + /29 sometimes /27 + /28

  • @Mon5t3r, at what average load you stop deploying?

  • Uptime: 12:22:51 up 49 days 20:20 0 users
    Load Average: 2.14 2.33 2.41
Operating System: CentOS release 6.4 (Final)
    Kernel: 2.6.32-279.19.1.el6.x86_64
    Virtual Servers: 59
    Suspended Virtual Servers: 0
    Allocated IPv4: 67
    Free IPv4: 4
    Suspended Memory: 0 KB
    Suspended HDD: 0 KB

^ Surely this will help :)

  • @GetKVM_Ash, thanks a lot. What's the model of the CPU?

  • E3-1230v2

  • 30 and no one will be able to make profit at the LEB prices for sure.

They only offer one plan (1GB) so im not sure how they are claiming 30 either, especially when they use 64GB+ servers :S

EDIT: I guess they were talking about how many they "would" put on an E3 server.

  • E3's do not support 64GB as far as I know?

  • 30 is profitable for us at colo.

We put 64 on an e5. There are other custom plans with higher ram and a couple 512's

  • @BradND, what E5 CPU? Is it dual?

  • E5 2620 the ones we have in production are single E5's but we are looking at deploying dual e5's across the board and phasing out e3's

  • prometeusprometeus Member, Host Rep

We use mostly e5 for kvm, but the few we have average 30 vps and a load under 1

    two examples below:
    12:43:14 up 319 days, 23:35, 1 user, load average: 0.68, 0.50, 0.54
    12:40:59 up 179 days, 19:04, 1 user, load average: 0.65, 0.55, 0.50

(keep in mind that most of the E3 are used for biz plans and 16GB of ram)

  • @prometeus, are those dual e5 2620's?

@serverian around 6 or 7 but never reach that till now really :| . 1230 and 1245v2. and also with KSM enabled.

yes, all the e5 servers but one are dual e5-2620

reserve 2GB for the OS and deploy 30GB worth of VM's no set number, saying 30 or 60 seems silly, is that 30 x 64MB ones or 60 x 4GB ones?

  • @AnthonySmith, the reason I asked this to see how CPU holds. I'm not interested in RAM usage.

2GB For the OS seems overkill to me.

    32 x 256
    16 x 512
    8 x 1024
    4 x 2048

    That's how we do it.

    RAM Allocated: 30.91
RAM Utilized: 25.87 GB of 31.27 GB used

So if you never sell all 4 x 2GB on a node you would reserve the RAM for 2 years just because that is the way you do it? seems binkers to me.

@serverian the E3 CPU's are beasts don't worry about CPU power your RAM/Disk will be an issue way before that unless you give everyone 8 cores :)

    Correct.

  • Thanks @AnthonySmith, I'm using dual westmeres for a few years. I've asked E3's to compare data.

  • @GetKVM_Ash, how much profits from that node on average??

  • I think the cpu is not the real limiting factor but rather the i/o limit on kvm nodes. We have min. 6 disks on a E3 32GB box to get good performance.

Always use at least 8 disks for everything.
