And the latency from AU isn't dreadful?

Nope, Plex deals with it like a champ. People all over the world are using it just fine.

Well find out then. You're making zero effort to help yourself, so I'll be fucked if I'm giving you anything more.

I've already asked on ''how to enable and install fuse'' on the Plex forum and they answered: ''choose a VPS that can enabled Fuse for you, keep things easy at the beginning''. So it should not be very easy for a linux newbie like me to install fuse from zero. Linux community usually help each others... I asked if there was a step-by-step tutorial on how to enable and install fuse, I didn't asked you to write it. You linked https://github.com/libfuse/libfuse . I asked then if there was something more user-friendly like that guide that I am following https://techperplexed.blogspot.it/2017/04/part-1-creating-infinite-plex-server.html and in that guide the fuse part is not covered. It says to ticket and have the vps provider to enable fuse.

There's a world of difference between being helped and being spoon-fed. You've looked at that guide (the defacto documentation btw), seen two things you don't know and instead of doing a few minutes of research just asked for help again.

I'm not going to bother to make any effort if you won't.

That would be correct if it's not enabled on OpenVZ. KVM you run your own kernel so you can do it yourself.

There's a thing, I naturally assumed that latency would matter. Might need to rethink my Plex strategy.

I thought so too. I was pleasantly surprised when no one had any issues. PM me your Plex username if you'd like to test the latency.

Ok thank you, so if the VPS is KVM providers I can't ask the provider to enable fuse for me. I'll tell that difference to the author of the tutorial so she can change that part.

That's why I asked if anyone on the internet had written a step-by-step tutorial from zero to build a Plex server (because it's not so uncommon). The guide that I've found don't cover the fuse part. :D It's not true that I am not making any effort, I've read all this tutorial about linux http://ryanstutorials.net/linuxtutorial/ a week ago I didn't know what pwd was and today I can use: pwd, cd, ls, mkdir, rmdir, cp, mv, touch, cat, less, head, tail, wc, egrep, vi, redirecting, piping, basics of bash script and other easy commands...

What about contabo? Any feedback? It's true that it's a ''hit and miss'' with Contabo because they oversell?

It works very, very well from Portugal so I assume it will run even better from the UK. We have been using it quite a lot.

  • You might also wanna state that whether your (original) video files are encoded with H.264 or H.265. Transcoding a H.265 stream requires more power than transcoding a H.264 stream.

Can you not even be arsed to read a thread now?

Pro tip: LET threads go a bit sideways from the topic a lot, and bit like conversations to naturally in real life. You've got to actually pay attention otherwise you'll lose track quickly.

To help you along a bit, this particular discussion is around the performance of @Trewq's Plex instance in Australia when consumed in Europe. It has nothing to do with you specific requests for help.

But you were talking about ''LET group PLEX server'' is in that case LET a verb ''to let'' or an acronym for something?

    Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Wow.

Now... let's say that I rent a KVM VPS or a root server. I've read https://github.com/libfuse/libfuse, let's assume that I install Ubuntu 16.04 from the control panel of the provider, after that I access the vps with putty as ''root''. Now from this situation, from zero in order to enable Fuse I would this step-by-step:

    $ git clone git://github.com/ninja-build/ninja.git && cd ninja $ git checkout release $ cat README ./configure.py --bootstrap ./ninja --version wget https://github.com/mesonbuild/meson/releases/download/0.41.2/meson-0.41.2.tar.gz wget https://github.com/libfuse/libfuse/releases/download/fuse-3.1.0/fuse-3.1.0.tar.gz $ md build; cd build $ meson .. $ ninja $ sudo python3 -m pytest test/ $ sudo ninja install $ sudo chown root:root util/fusermount3 $ sudo chmod 4755 util/fusermount3 $ python3 -m pytest test/

    What do you think?

  • Why not apt install fusermount?

I did this on my machine, rclone work flawless.

I think you need to try it and see what happens. That's the best way to learn.

I have a VPS with quickclickhosting, there I used

    sudo apt-get install fuse

but before that I asked the provider to ''enable Fuse'', until that despite I had used that command I could not mount anything.

It's that ''enabling'' part that is not clear to me on a self managed server or kvm vps. Did you install fuse only with apt-get?

On my dedi it worked out of the box, you could try.

And yes, I just apt install it.
