Mini F.A.Q

Q: How can you offer such low prices?

A: Why not? By having our own hardware and network equipment we can offer very good ratio between service price and quality. VPS XS price is lower than your daily coffee cup. Check it.

Q: How long are you in business?

A: More than 13 years and counting. Rock solid.

Q: Can I receive discount?

A: Do you really need one? Just look at our Annually or Biennially prices. Calculate. Are you feeling bad by asking for additional discount?

Q: Do you have IPv6?

A: At the moment - no.

Q: Do you allow...?

A: Check our TOS

Q: Do you offer KVM/XEN?

A: At the moment - no.

  • So if I wanted to turn one of these little bitches into an Emby server, at what point will you get annoyed with the CPU taking a kicking from transcoding?

  • I need a vps with only 250G, any cpu, any ram. What is the cheapest price you can offer?

They say cores are dedicated for storage VPS. I've used them in the past and never had a problem with CPU, so would probably work great since it's architecture isn't that bad.

I do believe in the past it's been said that a dedicated core isn't really dedicated with Time4VPS, so I wanted to ask the question.

You are welcome to use our servers for your desires, for example using it as Emby, however as all pimps, we don't like then costumers are beating our servers to much, but if you are not hitting it 100% all the time you should not worry.

It would be our 1 TB storage server package, it costs only 2.99 € per month if ordering with yearly basis.

This is kind of the problem with media servers - a certain times, there could be constant transcoding for several hours at a time, particularly if there'a offline synching happening.

It's not going to be 24/7 by any means, but particularly at weekends I could see if taking a pounding if there's more than a couple of users.

We offer variety of packages so you should choose one with enough CPU, RAM and other resources needed for your purposes. You are able to change packages any time, so you can test to know which package suits you best.

I do believe in the past it's been said that a dedicated core isn't really dedicated with Time4VPS, so I wanted to ask the question.

I interpret "dedicated" core as an allocated vcore which maps to a physical core(or at least thread) that nobody else can use it.

Judging from their storage VPS node specs, since there are only 6 cores (threads) for 40TB space, and their allocation is max 4TB per core, so cores can't really be "dedicated."
    ( E5-2609 v3 6C6T, 12*4TB RAID6).

So what does "dedicated core" mean?
    Edit: some careless error.

  • How many node for vps s and vps m?
    Do you offer unlimited node?

In this case it means that you are able to use all CPU assigned to your server when needed.

Could you please clarify what do you mean by "node"? Maybe you mean bandwidth or maybe Inodes?

Well this is kind of the problem, I'm not entirely certain of the limits, words and figures don't match if you will

The ad states dedicated CPU, but then you say:

time4vps said: but if you are not hitting it 100% all the time you should not worry

OK, so not properly dedicated CPU, but then you say:

time4vps said: In this case it means that you are able to use all CPU assigned to your server when needed.

    Wat? Which is it?

    Halp, plz.

    Thanked by 1bersy
  • I guess they want you to 'not worry'.

@time4vps Will customers get a ticket/email before getting kicked. (that's my expectation , naturally since I've paid biennially)

It sounds more like fair-use core, than a dedicated core. It's just comes with a guarantee that time4vps will make sure there won't be any noisy neighbor.

TOS seems to implicitly say you can't use the core 100% 24/7 anyway.

4.4 Content prohibited to host at our network: Data mining (due to heavy resource usage)

7.3 Another important reason that can result in blocking or termination without notice may be that the customer uses content which affects the performance or the safety of the server node.

Still, I think it'd better be clarified on webpage. I believe many people will interpret "dedicated core" as I interpreted.

an allocated vcore which maps to a physical core (or at least thread) that nobody else can use it

    Edit:format

  • Time4VPS's 'Dedicated' CPU is definitely not dedicated, this has been known for over a year already. There has been many forum members requesting that Time4VPS remove this misleading and arguably false advertising term, but so far nothing has been done.

From my experience, using 100% CPU will not get you kicked but your CPU speed will be progressively throttled from 2.4GHz to 1.2GHz.

Anyway @Nekky as for 512GB storage plan - emby server is not working there due to RAM shortage.

  • time4vpstime4vps Member, Host Rep

@Nekki @layfon We use phrase dedicated to describe availability to the CPU, it means that you are able to use assigned CPU when need. However as most of VPS providers we do not allow to abuse server - we have CPU anit-abuse system.

As said, if you will choose package which suits your needs you should never face any issues regarding server abusing.

  • time4vps said: As said, if you will choose package which suits your needs you should never face any issues regarding server abusing.

How can I pick the right package if I don't know what constitutes acceptable use to your system? Give me some kind of ballpark figure to work with here.

  • allXunder said: Anyway @Nekky as for 512GB storage plan - emby server is not working there due to RAM shortage.

Wasn't intending to do so, 2GB RAM is recommended for Emby.

We recommend to start with package "M" (our middle one), for some time monitor how much resources you are using. Depending on situation you will be able to downgrade or upgrade it. We do not allow to use CPU 100% longer then hour. So if you are doing it you should upgrade package, otherwise (using it for example in 0-90% interval all the time) you should stay on current package.

Unfortunately this option has been removed, at this moment we are offering 1 TB, 2 TB and 4 TB storage packages. Sorry for confusion, I removed this old offer from this post.

Okay, but that's not what "dedicated" means - and it's misleading to use that word, because it makes people expect something that you're not offering (regardless of what you mean with it).

Why not call it "guaranteed" instead? That would accurately describe what you're providing.

'Guaranteed use of x CPU core(s) (up to 90% capacity, bursting to 100% for no more than 59 minutes)'

I'd be more likely to buy something advertised like this than simply '1 dedicated CPU core'.

@joepie91 @Nekki Many thanks for both of you for this suggestion. We will change it as soon as possible on our website and on our future offers on LET.

  • Just to let people know that not only is native IPv6 missing... but you can't even use a tunnel since the kernel lacks IPv6 support. sigh

That is true. This is why we have stated it in our FAQ section on pricing page.
