Not expensive, at all. Even cheaper paid annually.

  • How come SATA pricing is more expensive than SSD? Mistake? Same specs.

    Didn't get it as well.

Maybe they accidentally flipped the pricing for the two? Pricing looks absurd at the moment.

Even if that was for SSD, that's still insane. I was expecting Storage-focused on the SATA plans :P

Ah you have to pay a yearly fee to get 50 percent off their normal pricing. Read the fine print people

This brings your total to 12usd/year + 3usd/month, making their cheapest vps fit barely inside LEB pricing (6usd/month or 48usd/year total)

Would only accept it if it was HA San... :P

It makes sense now. Not worth, IMHO.

  • We had SATA first and wanted to encourage customers to go with the higher performing and lower cost SSD based servers, so we left the SATA pricing where it was. Many people have kept their SATA since while paying more! Go figure, at least we tried. The SSD server use local storage with RAID 6 drive redundancy. Nobody beats our combination of price and performance. HA SAN would drive the cost up, so that is not in the plans.

So why don't you just lower the price of SATA anyways?

  • I dont understand why you're considering SSD's as cheaper? $/GB is much higher on an SSD...

Thank you for joining us in this thread. Can you explain further the annual prices? Looks like a bit misleading. I thought the regular price was one, then read that it's even more expensive. Gets almost the same price as DO in the first plan and more expensive in the second plan, while in your comparison, you say otherwise. Can't specify it right now as I am on mobile.

What is the difference between Standard and Membership pricing? There is a "?" button next to the Membership option which should show more info but it seems to not be working :/

Edit: Found some info in the faq. It says you get Membership pricing if you pay annually (so you get a 50% discount), not sure if that passes over for the second year or not.

It also says "The stated hourly rate for Cloudlet virtual servers includes compute only, outbound data transfer is billed separately.", so things could get expensive very easily.

They offer 1TB outbound bw per cloudlet. Inbound is unmetered.

Not according to the fine print:

Free 1,000 GB/month of pooled outbound transfer across all virtual servers

Thats even worse than the root server marketing crap.

Indeed. A bit misleading IMO, at least for me. I didn't read it properly though but I like prices to be crystal clear.

  • Our membership pricing is the same concept as the very popular Amazon AWS reserved instance option. I think they now offer 1, 2 and 3 yr. options. The SSD servers are cheaper if you are looking to maximize CPU and RAM, and the storage you do get is much faster than SATA. We are trying to end of life the SATA servers so we are encouraging people to move to SSD VMs. Some people like to see pricing structure like was done originally a decade ago with shared hosting accounts and the early VPSs, but most of the industry (AWS, Google, and Azure) is going the hourly route. If you are looking for high amounts of outbound data transfer or large amounts of strorage per VM, then we are probably more middle of the pack on pricing. As everyone knows, it is hard to make everybody happy, but we do think if you do performance benchmarks you will not find a better price/performance combination on the market. This is especially true if you take advantage of the membership pricing.

Understood. The screenshots of the UI are quite old and the design is terrible. Also heard people have like 4 different logins for different portals. How does this work? Are you planning to work in your UI?

It's still significantly more expensive, if you're ending them, why continue to sell them?
