Free AlphaSSL Wildcard and regular SSLs

I've previously issued certs to pretty much anyone that wanted a cert on the forum and just had them PM me with their CSR, etc, this got really messy :( So I've setup a WHMCS install just for this purpose :P (I might use this later tho, who knows :))

So what do you do to get your free certificate?

Follow the link and fill in the info and I'll issue certs probably once every 24 hours depending on when I'm home and have the ability to do it :)

If this gets out of hand, I might shut this down, but as I haven't found anything in SH's TOS at all about SSLs I think we should be fine, the worst thing that could happen is probably that my SH account would get closed down :)

So lets go....

    Sounds a bit dickish

Edit; first line sounds dickish, pretty sure if you ask them they are to be used within their network only.

Yup, sometimes I'm a real douche (usually I'm really kind tho), I removed the fist line =)

since you posted here, i won't wait until you say .. out of stock or -service abused -

i don't mind free vps, but when it comes to certs i like to be legit/paid all the way. "not easy come easy go"

thanks anyways if you had good intentions with this.

Would be nicer if this didn't ask for a lot of customer information and require to create an account.
(Yeah I know you can't really complain since it's free.)

  • Support ECC ?

  • Unless something has changed, I'm not sure SingleHop would be too happy about this.

See the old version of their website.

    The important part is:

First, they must be installed on SingleHop Servers with SingleHop IP Addresses. Second, they cannot be resold for use on non-SingleHop infrastructure.

If I'm wrong, great! Just thought I'd give you a heads up in case.

I'll check and probably make this not required when I get home from work :)
Almost got 100 request ;) didnt think it'd go that fast but hey better than none :) I'll fix them tonight when I get home ~01:30 CEST :)

As stated in the post these can be revoked at any time. Hopefully they wont as my certs haven't been for over 6 months, but if you use them for your projects/personal sites you should be fine. Businesses should probably use something else unless they have a backup-cert available like a lets encrypt :)

Thank you for the reminder, it's obvious that it won't last for such long due to TOS violation.

What's the aim in doing it then?

  • Order was deleted.

  • Order placed. Thanks Fidde

  • Thank you very much, I am waiting for you.

Alright, a few things, if you use a domain extension other then .com and .net the publicly available address won't work. I have so many requests I'm going to issue the rest when I wake up in a few hours. About ~50 done and more keep coming in all the time so, please have some patience with me :)

Please, don't submit multiple identical requests, it will just slow down the process for everyone else! :(

Some CSR's have not worked, I might require you to create a new CSR, I'll open a ticket for your account if that happens. If you have got a verification but not received the actual certificate, open a ticket and I'll retrieve it manually.

If you don't know how to create a CSR, don't enter your domain name in the CSR box and submit, that's not a CSR. Use Google to find out how to create a CSR :) Again, doing this will slow down the process for everyone :)

Thanks, and good luck with your certificates :)

I'm not too sure what you meant by this.

What are you referring to by "publicly available address" - do you just mean we can't pull the who.is email address?

GlobalSign/AlphaSSL can't find your whois email and therefore can't use it to validate your certificate.

Means its free time period like 30 days, 45 day, 90 days etc. is not confirmed, right?

The cert is issued for 1 year. The certificate can be revoked before that year has passed :)

  • @Fidde I received cert for 1 year , what if I want to change to ECC cert ?

Submit another request and I'll issue a new one :)

    Alright, 183 certs issued :)
A few have orders have been canceled, some have been duplicates for the same domain and some have been invalid CSRs (a ticket should have been opened). If your order has simply vanished, check if you have a ticket, if not, submit a new request :)

Some public-whois addresses have not worked, you have also received a ticket, most of the time, I've sent the verification to [email protected] so just setup that email and I'll resend the verification.

If you have received your verification but not the certificate, wait 15 minutes, then open a ticket and I'll retrieve it manually :)

And, please, don't include your private keys in the CSR, that's not required and is NOT recommended :)

I'm going to work now, gonna try to issue a few when I get home at night, but then I'm going away for a few days to Dreamhack Masters in Malmö so I probably won't be able to issue certs until Monday.

    Thanked by 1PandaRain
  • Great offer - just sent an order ;)

Simply because the certificates are to be used only on their network, not anywhere else. For example, hostabc is giving away free whmcs licenses to their reseller packages. T&C applies, and states that it should only be used with a website hosted with hostabc.

  • Is this offer still valid, I would love to try out

  • I've tried out on Friday, but still nothing so far ;)
