Remote DDOS Protection
Hi guys,
Does anyone know any decent remote ddos protection services? I am looking to protect a specific game server, but the host themselves do not provide DDOS protection.
I have found a few services online but not too sure if they are any good.
If anyone has any recommendations let me know.
Thanks

which mmorpg?
Sure skype me
BuyVM
buyvm @francisco and maybe ramnode, not too sure if they have it
EDIT: I forget x4b @splitice
If you do IP bans, or anything involving the IPs of users, use KVM + GRE. If you don't do IP bans, or anything involving the IPs of users, use OpenVZ + OpenVPN/Tinc.
Be sure to test latency between server/ddos filter.
MoH:AA
shooter? So voxility will be bad for you. (latency matters).
You did't said a location.
If europe: hosteam.pl / or any voxility resseller (but not in france / or london / or netherlands)
If USA: depends on region.
x4b.net do some remote protection, and doing that good.
Psychz LA, or a reseller there.
Yeah just realised I was really vague.
This is for a gameserver (one game server) in PA (East Coast). It is a shooter (old shooter, MoH:AA).
The reason for this is its a server for a popular twitch.tv streamer who gets about 8k viewers, last time I ran the server for him the ddos maxed my 1gbit port.
I have spoke to Ramnode and am highly considering using them, but still open to suggestions.
Try Psychz Ashburn.
Might only be photonvps that has servers in there atm
We can do this from our Ashburn, DC.
How much protection are you looking for?
Hey, honestly I am not too sure. What is the standard for this kind of stuff? First time really dealing with it.
I highly recommend https://www.protrafsolutions.com/. I've been with Protraf for a while and none of servers have been downed by attacks.
All depends how much you're getting attacked for.
I will PM you.
Where are your servers located now? Remote protection will increase latency unless you are very close to the mitigation centre. We do DDOS protected servers in Lithuania, suitable for gaming. But if your users are all in USA, then it would probably increase latency to an unacceptable level. If Europe, depends on what kind of latency you need, but it might be okay.
Alright so at this point I'm either gonna go with PhotonVPS or BuyVM - my query is:
Is it possible to setup the GRE Tunnel on Linux (so all traffic routes through here), but configure a Windows server to use that tunnel? If so, can anyone provide me a link.
Thanks
You can't GRE to Windows, only the Windows 2016 previews support actual GRE's.
There's ways around it, but knowledge isn't free :P
Francisco
Does that mean if I come to BuyVM, your knowledge becomes part of my payment?
Well yes? :P
We've setup tunnels for windows many times, it's a pretty common thing, especially for gameserver customers. The amount of people still doing Habbo Hotel and crap like that is amazing.
Francisco
Awesome, I'm sold. I'll purchase now (I was the guy who spoke to you on Live chat earlier regarding this).
Is purchasing the VPS plan we discussed earlier (OpenVZ) still ample, or do I need KVM?
Yep, I assumed such
Just ticket, explain what you're after, mention my name, and the guys will forward it. I'll get it done a little later once I get a bit of sleep into me. I've been fighting a cold and been coughing up a lung at the same time. It's quite disgusting to say the least.
Francisco
Is that still a thing? Think that was around when I was a kid...
Get well soon! Doing that right now, appreciate the fast response and help.
Yes, and the pools still closed.
Francisco
You host Habbo retros? Never knew :P
Don't you get spammed with real/fake DMCA's?
For remote DDoS protection, you have a variety of options to save costs. The first schemes usually only applies to Linux.
a) Rent a virtual server with protection and do a GRE between the two servers. (If you cannot move the current server you need to protect). This is not effective, if attackers know your old IP or you cannot change the IP.
b) Rent a virtual server with DDoS protection.
c) Rent DDoS protection from a provider, and they will setup GRE or a tunnel that redirects UDP or TCP traffic.
Europe:
and much more..
USA: (there are many)
Asia-Pacific:
etc
Depends if he just hosts the emulator or the actual images/swfs.
They can't DMCA the Emulator code...
