Running KODI / XBMC on a VPS

Hi
I am looking to run a kodi server on my vps and looking to use its web interface.I am getting a Libgl error.
Can I run a non gui - kodi server on my vps ?
Any alternatives will be helpful too
Note :
I already have a plex media server but I like kodi

  • If you just want to share the library, setup a database: http://www.htpcbeginner.com/kodi-mysql-setup-to-share-library/

Or you could use the plex plugin for your local Kodi clients and setup plex on the VPS.

  • i can't get that plugin working too...:-(...its shows some python error

  • i want to run the complete KODI interface

could you paste the exact error? Im not familiar with KODI but from the sound of it I think there is a lack of necessary devices under /dev on your VPS.

  • W8 I am pasting it here...

  • Error :Unable to create GUI Exiting

I am using a VNC Server

I don't see how this error message mentions libgl.

  • I just made some adjustments that why that error has gone ..I think...

Hmm running kodi itself on a remote box doesn't seem all that useful (Unless l'm missing something)

Maybe Try Emby as the media server instead of plex, there's a Kodi Plugin that can talk to it.

There's also a plugin for the Emby end that keeps track of the sync state of the Kodi clients so they don't have to do a full resync just for a single update :-)

This way you get to use Kodi on the clients

    Thanx....

  • Forgot to say if the server is remote you'll probably want to activate the setting to use HTTP (Or https if you've set it) in the Kodi plugin configure as it might try to connect over samba/cifs otherwise.

The initial sync can be a bit slow if your Kodi client is something lacking CPU power like a STB/Android media player and you have music enabled but otherwise once synced it's pretty seemless.
