Thanks! Once Jon has imported the list (which will be Monday) we'll make sure to provide such a link to users here to they can pre-unsubscribe.

I do feel kind of sad for @kcaj. Now he needs to find something else to do :-(

  • All set. Once the list has been imported you should be able to remove yourself here: http://chicagovps.us10.list-manage1.com/unsubscribe?u=53e5f9d21088f8e724f1cfe4a&id=f84e3dd1dc.

I'll add the link more prominently once the list has been imported.

Yes, it says ChicagoVPS in the link. We're using that MailChimp account. It's now in the name of ColoCrossing but apparently the link doesn't change.

I haven't asked you to email me any junk, nor am I expecting to have to opt out for something I haven't opted in for. So the same applies, if I recieve your junk-letter, MailChimp will recieve an abuse complaint.

It will take me 30 seconds, if that. I do it several times a day, it's really no bother.

  • I don't want a spam newsletter that I didn't request either.

So, the addresses in this feed will now by blocked:
    http://mailchimp.com/about/ips/feed.xml

I suggest others do the same, where they can. I consider anything that comes from MailChimp to be spam.

Anything from mailchimp? They have pretty a proactive anti-spam team, at least in my experience.

I love it how you classify something as junk without even having seen it yet :-)

15 years ago spam was about Viagra and Nigerian princes. Today, everyone wants you on their mailing list. It builds up and it's annoying and a waste of time. For me, LET is fun to waste a few minutes on but I couldn't give two hoots what's happened here in the last week or month. A mark of a good brand in my opinion, is sending very few marketing emails - because your product/service doesn't need to be rammed down people's throats. I think in LET's case it probably is illegal too, but that's not going to change anything here other than degrading LET to the same level as some of the companies that advertise here.

I think @xmob is right that Mailchimp in general, although in general it's legit, is the source of a lot of this timewasting stuff we all get and would be worth blocking as a whole.

I do not know how often ColoCrossing wants to send these newsletters, but I doubt they would want to make it a weekly thing. Especially if they want me to write the content, since I simply don't have time for that.

From my personal point of view I agree with you. If I were just a member here I'd probably unsubscribe as well. I prefer to pull information rather than having it pushed. I usually do that after having seen a newsletter, though, not beforehand.

From a commercial point of view it does make sense to send this newsletter. It goes to a large number of people that we could get to LowEndBox that are probably not visiting it now. The ones that don't want to get the newsletter will unsubscribe and not be bothered with it anymore.

Joyless the cunts, the lot of you.

1 fucking email and you're all going fucking nuts. I hate you all.

  • Couldn't agree more. The email will be about LE*, and it's one click from not receiving it ever again. If you really hate this place so much what are you still doing here? Go out, have some fun.

    That's the point.

  • According to this no opt-in is necessary, the opt-out just has to work.

It'd be cool if you include some projects which are made by community members that are useful / relevant to clients and providers in the hosting business.

I think the issue is that many people have had to deal with the CVPS/BlueVM/123S/etc unsubscribe issues where it took a dozen+ times to do it, and then when @jbiloh did it personally, the emails returned back into the subscriber lists not a few emails later.

As for email privacy, I would hope it isn't the advertisers sending direct emails and instead the admins are using the 'mass email' feature Vanilla hopefully has to send it on behalf of them.

That would be pretty cool :) It'd be a good way to get support behind some open source product lines.

The goal is to make the emails a positive, engaging message and any removal requests will be quickly acted on.

A lot of positive stuff is happening at leb and let and the newsletters are intended to spread awareness and act as a messaging tool for high traffic days like black Friday, cyber Monday, etc.

You and others well know I've had my arguments with @jbiloh but I'm calmer these days, and I really believe he wants good things for this place. Certainly you'll never find a situation where everyone agrees, but he has my vote on many things.

  • I frankly dont see the drama in this, preunsubscribe/unsubscribe bunch of baloney. Like a single email will hurt you, stop being wusses, I think this is a great feature especially because not everyone is on LET 24/7 and those with a life would prefer reading important stuff in their email.
