A newsletter is coming!

Over the next week we will be sending out our first newsletter to the LowEndTalk community. This newsletter will contain some teasers about the upcoming thanksgiving weekend sales. We plan to do this regularly (though with different content, of course), but if you don't want us to keep you updated there's an unsubscribe link in every newsletter.

No need. Apple already blocked all LET emails for some unknown reason and refuse to unblock them.

  • So... We're just going to get the same spam that we already do from BlueVM, ChicagoVPS, Vortex Servers and a multitude of other "services"? ;-)

    .

  • so my email address is being sold to cc's companies !?

  • namhuy said: so my email address is being sold to cc's companies !?

Naaah, this is the best legal way for paying advertisers to promote products to subscribing LET members. When there's an empty spot, then CC companies will fill the gap.

When we sign up as a member we expect to have new formal infos, this is the best way to get it as long as there is a balance of public - members - companies.

This way the advertising fee will be increased significantly.

    Dang! I think I should apply for a job to @mpkossen :P

I for one am pretty excited about it. I really think LE* needs to be more active in reaching out and engaging people. It is, after all, sort of a business in itself.

    Thanked by 1vRozenSch00n
  • @jarland I agree. LE* has grown in to a semi social business.

To be honest, look at how many people here trying to make a living, enhancing their business, or simply want to have information such as tutorials, trips & tricks, learning from other members' experience.

LE* just have to be managed more professionally while keeping the balance between social media role and business entity role. Having said that, it is necessary for LE* to generate more income to cover the managing cost and new hires.

The Newsletter IMHO is the connecting media between ever growing business side with social side. A newsletter also could become a catalyst among members and it should become one of LE* selling/promoting point.

Jar, I might sound like a buttlicker, but hey, that's the way it is to keep LE* growing.

    No.

Can someone check if it is complaint with the CAN-SPAM act to send a newsletter to people who didn't opt-in and don't have the chance to opt-out (beforehand)?

Would it be a CAN-SPAM compliant opt-out if I just posted in this thread that I opt out?

    I doubt it.

AFAIK we're free to send our members a newsletter as long as we adhere to the rules set out by the CAN-SPAM act. There will be an option to unsubscribe in the first newsletter which enables you to opt out of any further e-mail newsletters.

This would be true as long as long as we agreed to a newsletter upon signup- unfortunately this is not the case, and there is no box to tick (unlike other online communities), and the terms of service has no provision for it.

Don't take this the wrong way, but we're not going to take legal advice on USA law from an Australian kid that was involved in at least two failed businesses that have cost our members money.

Two? And fuck you, I'll take it the wrong way :) You're mad because you're wrong.

Just introduce a button on the profile/settings page to allow people to unsubscribe.

    Whoops, hit a nerve there.

And no. The powers will probably not invest resources into that.

But seriously, is this a nice way of saying our email addresses are being sold to CC? :)

  • LET's whois was visible sometime ago, so they switched to godaddy's domain privacy. I believe it clearly belonged to colocrossing. So that shouldn't surprising.

Just everybody change your addresses to something you'll never use.

    Solves the drama.

I would just make sure you guys are covered before you send your first newsletter. From what I've heard not complying to the CAN-SPAM act is costly...

  • If this is mailed from a CC range, it probably wont reach my inbox. If it's mailed from anywhere else, it will definitely result in an abuse report.

If that's what you want to waste your time on, be my guest! Clicking unsubscribe is a lot faster, though.

In case you haven't noticed, they have owned this website (including all the e-mail addresses) for a while.

In all seriousness: I now know we're going to send this using MailChimp. If anybody knows of standard functionality that lets you pre-unsubscribe, feel free to let me know!
