looking good, sadly(or more like luckily) i moved out of the area and no longer need direct ct connection or else i would jump on it.

William said: Not really cheap then, especially the burst.

certainly not cheap, but do you have better deals?

Just to clarify, the service is a flat fee, there is no burst / overage charge.

  • @dediserve said: Promo Code is P5QNGGQEVJ

Any chance for something smaller, say, 512MB RAM like your recent promos in other locations? Pricing using this promo code is very attractive, to be sure, but I, for one, have no need for a 2GB box. If I take it, I know how this'll end: after the novelty wears off, sooner or later I won't be able to justify another idling box and will cancel a couple months down the road.

    Hi Andrew,

Not in Hong Kong no. It's an expensive, premium location and we can't justify doing small plans there at this time.

How exactly are you offering 1Mbit @95th percentile with 10M burst when you are selling dedi at 50EUR. Sorry, I'm not sure I understand the pricing structure.

In any case, is this actually coming from CT or a re-seller of CT?

  • @randvegeta said:

We're absorbing the cost into our overall cloud revenues and service in that location.

If you want / need dedicated transit, then we pass it on at our cost rate $50 per Mbps.

    Which carrier?

    $50 or EUR?

According to my traceroutes, it looks like PCCW.

You could read the first post in the thread:

We have now added direct peering to China Telecom and China Unicom to our Hong Kong Platform. This provides our Chinese customers with the fastest possible route to mainland China as well as access to the vast Chinese market for all our Hong Kong Cloud users.

From my observations, not actually directly through CT, CU or even CN2 backbone. PCCW is fairly reliable though.

  • We're buying direct transit from PCCW to China, on dedicated links.

    Thanked by 1deployvm
  • @dediserve I have to say, disappointed.

The day you guys "plug in" the routes, all the HK nodes down at the same time, without notice/email, explanation, or even tweets. Indeed were all happened within 15 minutes or so, but who the hell could bare if live streaming were happening that time, through dediserve HK node?

Seriously, why not be uptime sensitive?

    Hi lifehome,
Have you a ticket open and I can check for you, as we'd no platform issues or outages in HK ?

  • Part of the Ticket #261896 (created 26/08/2015 15:48:25):

    26/08/2015 15:48

I am very annoyed by dediserve where unexpected shutdowns are happened occasionally. May I have a reason on these incidents?

    26/08/2015 16:24

Status page is for platform issues, not a HV reboot, it should be back in the next few minutes and the work will then be completed.

So server goes down and "just did a reboot". All my file transfers and backups was disrupted, but not outages! How ironic this could be? Plus no memo or email about this upgrade would affect users? :duh:

  • Individual Hypervisors can (rarely) need a reboot, I am sure the team can give you more details in the ticket should you need it. We provide HA Loadbalancer solutions https://dediserve.com/loadbalancers ) which you can combine with servers spread over many hypervisors to provide you with more assured uptime.

On a like:like basis our pricing is extremely competitive :)

yes true, just sad you didn't use softlayer HK as your default HK DC, addon EUR15/m for 1m burst 10mbps is really expensive, or even $50 /m dedicated.

  • We're running out of Equinix Hong Kong, and the transit cost for both burst and dedicated is pretty hard to beat, for the services we offer. You get what you pay for :)

  • They can't use SL HK - New SL contracts have the much lower BW alloc and 1TB costs like 50EUR.

I did and found no direct CT route. So I asked. And finally we get an answer that it's not direct CT but via PCCW. Which makes sense because CT is much more expensive.

William said: New SL contracts have the much lower BW alloc and 1TB costs like 50EUR.

Technically that is still cheaper than $50 /M. 1TB is equivalent to 3Mbit, so it would cost $150 from PCCW.

  • randvegetarandvegeta Member, Host Rep

@dediserve, are you saying you buy dedicated China bandwidth from PCCW or that PCCW has direct route to China and you buy international bandwidth from PCCW.

Meaning you sell China Only bw for $50 /M and that does not include any international route.

  • Funnily enough the softlayer website shows prices of over $100 per TB for servers in Hong Kong.

We provide two networks in HK. Our default includes a range of carriers and peers and we provide a default 250mbps uplink.

When you add the China option you get a second uplink and IP to PCCW transit. This link includes all routes but is optimized for the China peering.

Didn't catch up with your idea. Will I get anther ipv4 if I choose hongkong location? or is there an option to choose which one i'm going to use? I notice that there are two test IPs for hongkong.

Exactly. The China direct add on gets you a new nic and ip4 on the direct network.
