How to upload .iso file to Vultr from Google Drive?

I followed this tutorial: https://www.vultr.com/docs/windows-custom-iso-with-virtio-drivers and made my custom Windows 7 with Virtio iso file.

I am trying to upload my custom Windows iso file with Virtio drivers to Google Drive for almost 3 hours, because all other iso on the Interent didn't worked for me.

Now when it is finally finished I am having problem to add that iso image in my.vultr.com/iso. When I try to attach that iso it says 0 MB, so I assume my Google Drive share link is not configured properly. My url link is not finished with .iso extension like on this website: https://iso.quanlyvps.com/ instead it ends with some random hash numbers like 90a1JsZ3pGyjA

How could I get my google drive link to finish with .iso?

  • You can't - Google does not offer direct download links.

  • You need to add a hotlink...I think you can give direct links with drop box... But not sure

  • Maybe this is any useful for you: http://gdurl.com/

You can I'll see if I can find the link I used to do it. But you basically create a new folder with a public.html file in it you get the link for that and change its id= to the one of the iso

  • I found this and he still use it: http://www.dalebasler.com/2014/03/get-a-direct-link-to-files-hosted-in-google-drive/

Someone shared this link in the comments section below:
    https://support.google.com/drive/answer/2881970?hl=en

I tried that, but still not being able to get .iso like the guy from https://iso.quanlyvps.com/

How the hell he managed to do it?

OK, guys I found a solution thx to BG32. For anybody in the future follow this tutorial:

            1) Crete a folder in Google Drive and make it public
            2) Upload large file inside and remember the name (for example Win_7.iso)
            3) Copy folder ID (long string of characters)
            4) Then go to www.googledrive.com/host/[your folder ID]/[file name]

In our case would be www.googledrive.com/host/[your folder ID]/Win_7.iso

Now when I go to that link I can start downloading my file immediately.

OMG! Why life need to be so harsh? I tried to add that image to Vultr, but I got this:

Image "Win_7_file.iso" does not appear to be an ISO, file type: ASCII HTML document text, with very long lines (size: 51891 bytes)

  • It would be easier for clients if Vultr willing to provide local pc upload as an options to the remote upload.

why not upload to your other vps ? and upload from there to vultr. or use demo.ovh.eu, which allow direct download

Just use mongoose http server its only one executable

I wonder if its because php might struggle with large uploads

  • Just to give you an update. I contacted Vultr support which was very helpful. They downloaded my Google Drive iso file and uploaded for me.

I think they should really do something about this remote upload and improve it somehow.

Might use demo.ovh.eu in the future or upload directly to my VPS.

I actually did it. But it takes time to setup Linux server with some cpanel and configure it properly. I am not a coder especially linux one where everything is in cmd.

Yesterday I spent whole day watching tutorials about installing cpanel on Centos and stuff. Plus various uploads took me 8 hours...

And problems seems don't have an end. I need to open another HELP thread to resolve my Virtio drivers issue now. This is ridiculous.

What is "quanley" iso? I tried to Google it, but it suggested me spelling fix "quality" iso? If you mean quality then I do not know... I just followed their tutorial to the T and created iso with their settings. I don't know if I deploy Windows 2012 how could I share files from Windows environment. Never did it on my Windows 7.

Also here is the thread for my next problem:

Facepalm ;) That quanly... I have to use Win 7 for something specific what I am doing, so I went with both Win 7 from his website. First large got an error, second tiny one also got an error at installation when I got some strange pop up error language not supported... I picked English and stuff.

Then I went trying different versions on the net and had no luck. That is why I created my custom one.

I agree server 2008 or 2012 should be the best choice for Windows VPS, but I need Win 7 for now. Now everything works fine! Thx guys!
