FAQ:

Q: Who are you guys? How long have you been around?
A: UltraVPS is a division of Versaweb - the guys who sell awesome, cheap dedicated servers. We've been providing VPS hosting services since 2008.

Q: What locations are available?
A: We currently have capacity available in our Las Vegas, NV and Seattle, WA datacenters.

Q: Is there any kind of guarantee?
A: Buy it and try it for 10 days. if it sucks, we'll give you your money back (as long as you didn't do anything stupid, like SPAM).

Q: How fast will you have my VPS online?
A: We manually review orders from new customers to keep fraud to a minimum, which allows us to keep our pricing low. Usually we'll have you up within just a couple of hours. Once your account has been approved, subsequent orders are provisioned instantly.

Q: Are these managed or unmanaged plans?
A: These VPS plans are unmanaged. We'll try and help out where we can via our ticket system, but at the end of the day It's all you.

Q: Do you offer Windows on these VPS plans?
A: Nope - these plans are Linux only. We aren't planning to offer Windows VPS plans at this time.

Q: Do you have a test IP / test file?
A: Sure!

Las Vegas Looking Glass: http://lg.las1.ultravps.net
Seattle Looking Glass: http://lg.sea1.ultravps.net

Q: Who are your network providers?
A: NTT, Hibernia, HE.net, Level3, and dozens of private peering arrangements. Check it out - AS53340

Q: Can I get IPv6?
A: Not yet, but soon. We promise. Our network is 100% v6 ready, but we're still testing out some of the new v6 features in SolusVM. Once we're happy, we'll roll it out at no added cost.

Q: How does your DDoS protection work?
A: Our system automatically detects incoming attacks and null routes the targeted IP, thereby minimizing collateral damage and keeping you online even if you have virtual neighbors who aren't so nice. We offer enterprise-grade DDoS MITIGATION too, for only $3/m per protected IP.

Q: How can I use my VPS? Any restrictions?
A: No TOR, no torrents, nothing illegal, no SPAM, no DDoS attacks, etc. Basically, don't do anything stupid, and we'll all get along just fine.

Thanks for reading, and have a good day!

  • It was $10.5, right?

  • akzakz Member

Looks like a good bluevm replacement hrmm

  • RizRiz Member

Wouldn't go as far as comparing it to BlueVM at all. They are not reselling CC.

2 IPs are included as well from what I can tell on the website. Not a bad deal at all.

I can't quote for their network -- just signed up for one at each location so we will see.

Looks like they just put random numbers for the pricing. Just two weeks ago they advertised a higher price here in LET and it seems like the $10.5 price was sold to Chinese customers in other places just days ago.

@Rob_T you are advertising unallocated prefixes under AS36114, by the way.

  • Do you offer custom image?

@OP can you do an mtr for me please?

  • Thanks @Rob_T. Grabbed a 1GB in Seattle to test it out.

  • @Rob_T Can I upgrade my 512 plan to 1Gb with this promo?

    Hi all,

I signed up for their service a few months ago and my advice is that if you want to use their service for a close-to-production server: forget about it, so, this is my summary:

    The good:

    • the VPS server has been online without problems

    The bad:

    • All automated, no humans around
    • This is a house of spammers: fiberhub.net, versaweb, ultravps, vegasnap are all the same people but with a different names (not sure why).

Just check their IP 204.77.1.6 and you will see that, at the moment of writing this, the company is a top 10 house of spammers.

You can find their ASN information by going to the ultratools website (or type "ultratools asn" on google) and after typing their IP address 204.77.1.6 (ultravps.com) you will find out that the ASN is AS53340

Then a search in cleantalk.org will reveal you an average spam rate of 88.33% having blocks of IP addresses with 97.18% and even 100% spam rate!

May 2015 was like an outbreak of Spam there!.

To see this go to google and type: blacklist AS53340 and click on the first link with title: "AS53340 VegasNAP, LLC | SPAM activity on websites"

    Check for yourself!

Be extra careful with this and unless you are a spammer don't go there

@JamesD - Thanks for that. Maybe you should just not host mail servers with them?
It would be kinda a waste to host mail server with SSD anyway.

  • JamesDJamesD Member

@FrankZ Well, that's an option but there are lots of VPS providers around offering a better deal. On the other hand, I guess that being part of the SPAM house must give some people a sense of excitement

We don't host spammers, nor do we condone that type of behavior on our network. We currently have an issue with exactly one RBL, UCE Protect, an uncommonly used German RBL who has listed us in error. The IP's they are referencing have no outbound SMTP traffic on them (we even blocked port 25 on those addresses to be sure there weren't any hacks or other issues), but since there is no way to contact a human there, it's not possible to get the issue corrected.

We have zero listings with Spamhaus:
    http://www.spamhaus.org/sbl/listings/versaweb.com

We aren't even in the top 100 mail sending networks on Senderbase:
    http://www.senderbase.org/static/spam/

And none of our netblocks are listed in the top senders list on Spamcop:
    https://www.spamcop.net/spamstats.shtml

So, @JamesD, I'd dispute your claim that we are nothing but a "spam house", especially considering that this is your first post on LET.
