  • I think it is a good move. I have a VPS with filemedia and it's really cheap and for the money it's performing well. Only support was crap, so I hope this will change :)

Isnt there a EU law, that just moving the data without even the costumers is ilegal.

  • As far as I know filemedia was a sole trader.
How can he transfer my contract to another company without my permission?

  • I wonder what are the motives behind this merger. Could it be tax / VAT related?

Previous filemedia owner already was doing tax fraud for people outside of EU.

Motives is probably that Johannes couldn't handle ongoing issues, adding new DC, closing first DC and moving people, bad rebranding and etc.

Eh, Technically, in reality not really.

He charged VAT for non-EU customers - In german law that is very questionable, if not outright illegal like in Austria (our laws are 90% the same as Germanys)

In Austria (presumably also in Germany):

As sole trader without VAT ID someone should charge (and not even list any) no VAT (from anyone) until they cross a treshold (seems to be 50000EUR in Germany, "Kleinunternehmen") and have to apply for a VAT ID, as company with VAT ID you charge (formerly your own, now the buyer countries) VAT if buyer/seller has no VAT ID (if inside EU) or no VAT (outside EU or special area, Ceuta/Canary Islands (ES), Madeira (PT), some but not all French oversea departments ).

Only scenario i know where everyone pays VAT regardless of location are Polish companies (23% or something around that, even for non-EU customers, EU companies with VAT ID are excluded, leaving interestingly that it is more expensive to buy from non EU than from an EU based reseller that charges you no VAT and pays non either) never seen anything like this in D/A - Not as sole traders and not as company either.

I don't say it's illegal, but it is very strange.

  • Ask for prepay 30EUR not a best way to let folks start. That problem.

  • I really don't know what to think about this at this time. It raises a lot of questions with me, the first one being if I'd still be able to trust these guys.

What did they do? Did I miss something here?

That's my VPS with "these guys" :)

    CPU model : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5540 @ 2.53GHz
    Number of cores : 1
    CPU frequency : 2527.006 MHz
Total amount of ram : 128 MB
Total amount of swap : 128 MB
    System uptime : 129 days, 23:24,
    Download speed : (9.65MB/s)
    I/O speed : 195MB/s

Nothing special, but it works! It's most likely me who rebooted it 129 days ago anyway.

Fantastic, downtime/reboots on my (ex-)filemedia kvm's now after this.
Anyway, thanks to filemedia for a painless and great year.

    And yet another reboot. yay?

It's the httpzoom part I'm worried about.

Sorry to ask you. But what does that mean? Sorry if I'm being stupid? What have they done?

  • @MSPNick @httpzoom is the only host in UK that was not DDoS'ed. Other hosts who post offers getting DDoS'ed customer ip ranges

nothing to worry about. Both companies compliment each other nice like.

@httpzoom thats what she said. Maybe you like to show use some graphs.

  • @httpzoom Is the support already done by you? Do you still provide German support?

  • sepeisepei Member

@trexos It looks like they really merged the companys because I got a answer from Johannes in the ticket 2 hours ago the owner of filemedia before. So it looks like he is still working on filemedia

I have a very bad experience with them and if that same experience passes over to Dedify, it would be a shame.

  • @mpkossen have you ever made experience with dedkfx?
