Finally got mine setup, only took 24+ hours but it seems to be a pretty snappy little box, except it seems as I only get half a CPU core?
root@nl:/# cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor : 0
vendor_id : GenuineIntel
cpu family : 6
model : 42
model name : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E31230 @ 3.20GHz
stepping : 7
cpu MHz : 1600.069
cache size : 8192 KB
Network speeds are pretty good, my disk IO is fine as well.
Power saving features most likely, hammer the CPU and check
@nunim what are you using to generate those numbers in your picture?
deluge-webui
my webui on hostslim
deluge from sources install script
deluge project site
@nunim Are you on node localhost?
No.
Node VPSMAIN0130
I don't know if it's the host fault but pingdom says my site has been down for 5mins every few hours O_O
Oh look they're doing another crazy offer 50% -_- looks like they're really overselling
Node 13 already, btw i'm on node 12.
The network is fast but not that stable.
@budingyun so it's not stable... how would I explain this to support? since I don't know what the problem is since all it does is have lag spikes for a few mins at random times
Looks like they're planning to sell, maybe, and trying to get as many customers as they can to inflate the selling price?
I got one anyway. Performance is more than acceptable for the price so far. Definitely no complaints from me. I wouldn't prepay for more than a month at a time though.
@Gary would you expand how you found out they're planning to sell the biz?
It look so. Yesterday they opened another 50% off offer FOR ONE DAY at wht and they extended it for another 24 hours today. IPv6 promise get standard "it will be today" or "it will be tomorrow" reply without actually setup. They either don't know how to set it up yet or don't care and just fill client base.
They posted in their lastest offer at WHT:
dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync
16384+0 records in
16384+0 records out
1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 6,55561 s, 164 MB/s

Yeah, right...!
Not quite but pretty close?
root@nl:/# dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync
16384+0 records in
16384+0 records out
1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 7.45191 s, 144 MB/s
If the performance of my server stays as is I will be quite happy for my $3.xx/mo
It won't If I remember correct you're on latest node (130 or something like that) -> next in order to heavily overload it.
You misunderstand me. The situation just seems like that. I've seen the same pattern of behaviour a dozen times from other companies.
@ Gary What situation?
I'm not sure if you're being intentionally dense or not. The whole situation involving HostSlim. The way they're currently running their business.
Offering exceptionally high resources for next to nothing, doing multiple extended money off offers, overselling quite badly...
These aren't the actions of someone who's in it for the long run, or someone who's particularly bothered about the service they're providing.
@Gary they have been doing this for 2 years...what are you talking about?
do not accuse somebody simply because they're selling it cheap.
when Buyvm first came out with $15/yr, do you know what people said?
Where are they now?
>
Not on LET :P
nope.
There's cheap, and there's so cheap they're overselling it to hell. Their normal prices are realistic. 75% off isn't. It's not sustainable.
You reference BuyVM. I reference ipap.co.
The big difference is that BuyVM do these prices 24/7/365, and carefully limit the numbers of the very cheap packages they sell. Hostslim seem to be going all out. They even had to get a new block of IPs from the datacentre to fulfil demand.
One's cheap. The other's too cheap.
It's not just about price. Some things are really strange. So many, really many beginners mistakes. Wrong ordering system configuration, wrong resources configuration per package, offer posted in wrong WHT section, false IPv6 advertising (they obviously don't know how to do it, so they always reply "it will be later today", etc..).
There's some little hostslim advertising since 2010 but this massive campaign out of sudden... - there aren't two years of experiences behind this offer, no way! Something doesn't match.
Maybe they changed owners and the new owner happens to be a newbie?
Agreed, Spirit. They do seem noobish. Fast ticket replies mind you.
This is what I got, i'm being super duper srs right now
Node VPSMAIN0130
@birdie25 Pretty much the same results I got, I haven't really noticed the performance drop in the last few days but that could just be this node isn't as oversold as it will be. I'm content, I've been pushing out a steady 1-2MB/s+ since I got it, used 250GB of BW so far and for some reason the first day or 2 Solus wasn't showing any bandwidth usage at all, perhaps it wasn't properly configured.
root@vps:~# dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync

Node - vpsmain011 ..
Its very slow .. have hosted a normal Wordpress Site . just not .. nginx is throwing "504 Gateway Time-out" since . its really slow ..
