  • @bnmkl Thank you for mentioning us. VPSs have a 100mbps limit though, @snelweg is looking for gigabit.

    Ah, good point.

Network is pretty damn good tho, and uptime is crazy (18:56:09 up 261 days, 22:46, 1 user, load average: 0.08, 0.02, 0.01 on my ovz backup)

  • I say if you do find someone willing to offer you this, I bet with-in a month you are back here telling us how horrible they were. Anyone who would offer you what you are asking is most likely overselling or willing to take a loss as it just doesn't compute. You are better off to up your budget and find something you can actually rely on, especially since this is supposed to be your back-ups?

Also, if you used rsync for you back-ups there is absolutely no reason why you would need to be sending all the data each time. If you do not want to use a commercial product, at least spend some time to LEARN how to do it your self for free in other ways than just moving the whole 123123GB tar.gz every 2 hours.

    my 2 cents.

    Cheers!

    Noted.

Rsync btw is no different to all the other methods in that it doesn't allow a really quick restore.

  • If we're talking about different backup methods, use rdiff-backup. It keeps the latest files so you can just copy them back if something goes wrong, and then a compressed diff-copy of everything dating back as long as you're backing up. That way you only copy over the diffs but you have a working, 100% portably copy at your disposal

    No we are not.
I asked for a specific configuration and not a pedantic discussion about who knows what is best.(nickvanw, do not take it personaly)

Please only respond with offers in this thread.

Did you pm him? 2$ more/m might do it

  • It is much easier to restore the whole server in one go than do individual backups. Untarring over ssh it quite straightforward.

I appreciate your sarcasme, but what do you offer?

  • lol @snelweg wants to back up his porn collection hourly lol!

I'll include the extra disk space you need - just ticket me. @snelweg

  • @Corey said: I'll include the extra disk space you need

How do I place an order, I nowhere see the specs of what I am ordering.....

  • Still confused to choose?
Well, maybe it's more expensive, but if you don't mind, I think you better buy a cloud VM.
As you stated above about "backup frequency", I think you need something more "elastic" if you know what I mean, because backup reliability might be a "last hope" if something bad happened.
At least you have a secured storage and you can customize it's specs by yourself.
Take singlehop cloud as an example, maybe you can find something similiar like it in a cheaper offer.

No, I have a clear idea of what I want and where to get it. But thanks for your thoughts on this matter, elastic cloudservice did cross my mind. But waiting hours for I can get my files back (as with Amazone S3) is not the way to go for me.
