Looking for a vps with >150Gb disk

    snelwegsnelweg Member
    edited April 2013 in General

    150GB STORAGE
    1024MB RAM GUARANTEED
    1536MB BURSTABLE
    2000GB TRANSFER
    Gigabit PORT

    Preferably in Europe/UK

    These are the minimal specs.
It will be, among other things, my backup server so it has to be reliable.

edit: changed the bandwidth requirement at 11:23
edit: changed the purpose of the vps to be more specific 15:04

      @Jacob said: Never.

      +1 (atleast not in Europe)

    • Get a kimsufi low end server for several bucks, then you get 500GB HDD.

PaulVPS - Los Angeles, Seattle and Frankfurt low end OpenVZ & Xen VPS with fantastic performance.
    • I doubt you're going to get that in Europe. It's the bandwidth mainly that you're going to have an issue with.

Some providers might be able to work out something custom, however, it's going to be well over LEB pricing.

    • @dominicl said: It's the bandwidth mainly that you're going to have an issue with.

      I adjusted the bandwidth

Still going to be quite hard to find. Bandwidth is more expensive in the UK, generally. If you're willing to consider US locations you may find something near what you're after. However, it's probably going to be out of LEB pricing.

The Kimsufi Plans don't have a Gigabit port. The only provider that fits your needs is i3d. Check out their WHT deals.

Reliable Hosting...Their website is old and not updated and the on-line chat is available but nobody answers. So I didn't go with them.

I tried them for 2 days but canceled because the disk performance wasn't really suitable for running websites with any database intensive applications.

Pros: very fast customer service, good ping times to NYC and LA and Europe (faster than anything out of Buffalo)
Cons: aging L5420 server, 40-60 dd test speeds and there was a definite lag in disk performance even when doing apt-get upgrades

      Europe

The only thing in LEB pricing is HostSlim when/if they have another 75% off sale on their 200GB plans and the performance is so bad you can't even use it for a backup server (I tried) and the "200GB" is really much less than 200GB because the disk space is so oversold.

    • @DomainBop said: The only thing in LEB pricing is HostSlim

Lol, they are a joke. I was with them for a few months and was not happy at all with them. Glad I am not with them anymore.

Too bad Iperweb is out of stock on their smallest backup KVM plan, which is 200GB + 3TB B/W for 12.50GBP/quarter. Fit's right in the LEB price range. Meets all your requirements except for RAM.

Was more a Hostbill problem. My backupserver was suddenly gone one day, and I could get an empty new one back. I don't like that.
Nice people though, and very good servers and service.

@snelweg the disk is possible as is ram and port speed but the 2TB of bandwidth is the issue :-P

Are you really going to use 2TB?

      @snelweg :

      Dallas Test file: http://192.241.10.50/100MB.test
      NJ Test file: http://speedtest.choopa.com/100MBtest.bin

NJ would probably be a little over LEB pricing though since you need the extra RAM

Well.... I tend to backup frequently and so I tend to use a lot of bandwidth. I was once terminated for being a fraction over the alloted amount, so I need some magin here.

    • no not as in canceled, more as in totaly being ignored without being told why my vps was offline. I terminated the crappy vps myself.

I see, well the RAM is possible, disk is possible and bandwidth at 50% would be possible.

      NJ Test file: http://speedtest.choopa.com/100MBtest.bin

I tested from three different locations, these are the results.

       Dallas:

        2013-04-20 16:28:31 (968 KB/s) - 100MB.test' saved
        2013-04-20 16:25:19 (9.42 MB/s) - 100MB.test' saved

      NJ:
       2013-04-20 16:18:55 (276 KB/s) - 100MBtest.bin' saved
       2013-04-20 16:13:30 (1.46 MB/s) - 100MBtest.bin' saved
       2013-04-20 16:11:30 (16.3 MB/s) - 100MBtest.bin' saved

      ipv6 does not work btw....
