Windows on Digital Ocean
Hi Everyone,
I was reading here on the forums about another user installing Windows to their Digital Ocean server/vps, but refusing to provide any real information on how to he completed.
This thread specifically - https://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/comment/1891553/
That thread got me thinking and I have been attempting to install windows, but coming up short to say the least. The plan is to get Windows installed so I can release compatible templates like I have done for Online.net & Kimsufi.
The templates I created originally BSOD on boot, hence I am trying to install via ISO so I can work out driver compatibility issues as there isn't a rescue environment with DO that can be easily used without having to open a ticket to have the ISO mounted every damn time.
So here is my question.
How in the hell do I boot to the Windows installation ISO using grub2?
I have tried everything I have found and each time I end up with "error: hd1 cannot get c/h/s values".
What am I doing wrong?
Couple of notes..
- I have the smallest instance setup with Ubuntu 16
- I have multiple additional disks added to allow for FAT32 partition and a 2nd to install windows to (I want to avoid overwriting the original Ubuntu OS so I can make the templates later easily.)
Thanks everyone!

Dont do it. Is illegal.
Actually, installing Windows isn't illegal...but thanks.
If you can do that, don't share because a lot of TE guy will come and destroy DO. I could do it long time ago but I didn't share because I know a lot of people will abuse it in the way they abused Vultr. Please inbox me, I'll suggest you some points to successfully install Windows on DO.
?
What's wrong with that?
Why not use a host that actually fully supports Windows? As an example, BuyVM's "KVM slices" (https://buyvm.net/kvm-dedicated-server-slices) support Windows and come with a choice of either Windows 2008 Server or Windows 2012 Server. They're currently out of stock though . ChicagoVPS supports Windows too, and you can find other offers on LowEndBox here: https://lowendbox.com/tag/windows/
Cmon, you first say buyvm which is an amazing recommendation, and then you mess it up by recommending chicagovps
I love you.
lol, my bad. I've never used ChicagoVPS and didn't know they have such a terrible reputation. I just searched for Windows VPS providers listed on LowEndBox and picked one of them.
I've been using BuyVM since 2012 though. A++ would recommend
Quick update on this thread, see more here - https://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/92744/online-net-dedibox-xc-sc-2016-windows-templates#latest
Templates are working on DO.
