It depends. For example, I will be auctioning off http://vpserve.rs once 6 months have passed on it's registration. So, right now it is "parked".
By "earnings" he meant from ads, which is placed on the parked domain. Not from selling the domain itself.
@Hitendra, some people are (or were) making money this way. There must be some method of doing it, e.g. the domain is typo/misspelled domain thus receiving a lot of visitors. Also possible if it's a very famous domain which the original content has gone/closing business/etc. I'm sure it's not any random domain for this way of making money.
I've never found it worth my while to park my domains. Generally I let them sit there until I've got a buyer.
Parking itself stopped being much of a money-maker about 2 years ago, but as a lead-in to a sale of a domain can work if it still gets traffic, has incoming links etc.
Selling of pre-owned domains is shifting for the low-end sales from sedo to flippa with ebay running a close 3rd.
Which is profitable Domain selling or Park a domain.
also some domain trader like Filppa or dnforum or Sedo they charge fee before listing.
