I thought of installing Ubuntu on my new PC.
The monitor has a resolution of 1366x768, that's not included by default in Ubuntu or any other Linux distro. So, I made new modeline. cvt1366 768 60 returned
# 1368x768 @ 60.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 47.70 kHz; pclk: 85.86 MHz Modeline "1368x768_60.00" 85.86 1368 1440 1584 1800 768 769 772 795 -HSync + Vsync
See the new modeline is 1368 instead of 1366. So, can anyone help me out in making a custom modeline? I've got the hsync, vsync rate of the monitor from the manual itself.

Uninstall ubuntu.
Install Debian
Working on a laptop running Ubuntu 14.04 with 1366x768 resolution.
thx
You sure it's not included?
I try it on my laptop, no issue at all to use it without any configuration. Same for Fedora.
I thought the days when there was a need to set the resolution in xorg.conf manually are long gone by now..
Anyway have you tried to play with xrandr? It should be a good start.
1366 x 768 works fine in Linux Mint version 18.
Same here.
Did it get to that resolution automatically?
They are
You should not be manually setting modelines in this day and age.
Like @exception0x876 said, you should be doing this with xrandr or something like it, most likely.
Also Install debian, who knows what kind of internal wackiness Ubuntu uses for it's display stuff these days
I don't believe you even need an xorg.conf anymore, everything is auto-detected (yes, including 1366x768 resolution, I've used laptops with that resolution on Linux).
Did you copy over an old config from another machine, or follow some really old tutorial online?
No, I just installed Linux Mint 18 KDE along with nVidia drivers (I've a nVidia GPU). No extra configs.
xvidtune
might help with tweaking modelines. BTW, switch to proprietary Nvidia drivers in case you are using the nouveau open-source version.1366x768 on 16.04 working like a charm.
Would you mind check if your computer is listed here ? https://www.ubuntu.com/certification/desktop/
