Alternative to Droppy

I came across this a few days ago and liked the idea of having a simple web interface to remotely view/edit (script) files. Does anyone recommend something else above this, or should I just go with Droppy?

Honestly, I don't really want anything heavy and I'd prefer something less hippy than NodeJS ;-)

  • NodeJS is backed by big corporate at this stage and is known to perform well in all sorts of real-time applications.

I don't think you should look at apps developed using NodeJS and think off them as being 'hippy' or 'unstable'.

For apps similar to Droppy, we use C9 Cloud IDE (self hosted version) which allows you to do the same stuff as Droppy (File manager), however also includes a terminal & IDE so it's great for development.

  • thanks for letting me know about Droppy, looks cool.

  • @DETio, my comment doesn't have anything to do with the stability of the tool. Being a dinosaur, I tend to joke about most new(er) things as being 'hippy'. Haha.

Thanks for the C9 reference. I came across the product when I searched for web-based IDEs but (from their website) I didn't realize that their stuff could be selfhosted.

@ehab, yea, it does look pretty handy.

  • I don't think C9 allows you to self-host their product.

As the Cloud9 core repo is "viewable source", commercial use of it is not permitted for commercial use. If you'd like to run a self-hosted version then you'll need to contact us directly at [email protected] to discuss possibilities.

    Droppy looks pretty cool indeed!

Someone around her once suggested https://sprut.io/en/ for such a task.
    Not very lightweight, though...
