Hello all!

I don't want to say what provider is, but i found a swiss kvm a bit slow.

Here the result of the benchmark:

CPU model : QEMU Virtual CPU version 1.0
Number of cores : 1
CPU frequency : 2533.350 MHz
Total amount of ram : 121 MB
Total amount of swap : 106 MB
System uptime : 275 days, 14:14,
Download speed from CacheFly: 6.97MB/s
Download speed from Coloat, Atlanta GA: 1.05MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Dallas, TX: 217KB/s
Download speed from Linode, Tokyo, JP: 557KB/s
Download speed from Linode, London, UK: 6.02MB/s
Download speed from Leaseweb, Haarlem, NL: 5.11MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Singapore: 405KB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Seattle, WA: 558KB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, San Jose, CA: 555KB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Washington, DC: 1.32MB/s
I/O speed : 138 MB/s

I use it primarily for vpn, so i'm a little disappointed.
Do you think it's normal?
Thanks!

  • Depends on how much you're paying for it, and what specs it is.

You're getting ~50Mbps in Europe, which is OK I guess for a VPS with a shared 100Mbps uplink. Also I/O speed looks normal for a SATA disks based node.

It's not bad, IO is within range and since your mostly using it for VPN there shouldn't be any issues. Your time is showing as over 275+ days so if you don't have any issues with it's fine...

What are you disappointed at bearing in mind its nearly a year old (much older hw wise)

I think he's more disappointed at the international transfer speeds.

    Edis :D

  • Yes, it's the network speed i'm complaining and yes, it's edis. I didn't want to tell because i'm otherwise a satisfied customer.

I doubt there was a single person that did not think Edis when you said Swiss KVM :P

Pretty happy with that. More than enough for a small 3€ VPS :)
Also for browsing the internet, you should more concern about the latency (as long as you get more than a few Mbps), which is very good with that DC.

    Hm, interesting.

I use a Swiss KVM from Edis as one of my primary VPN boxes; frequently maxes out my connection (Virgin Media UK) without any problems. Where are you connecting from?

    Hi guys!
we usually don't put more than 50 MBit/s traffic-load on a single hostnode.
@RoboCot: maybe there was an attack ongoing when you were measuring?
Please contact me directly to get things sorted ([email protected]).
(even I/O speeds are not where they should be ... usually between 350 and 200 MBit/s)
    Cheers,
    Gerhard

You get 24 cores on a 256mb VPS?

    Dannggggg

  • Man, the VRS is pure power.
    Tested this once. Blows.

as we are already in touch by email, I would like to continue the conversation by mail if you don't mind. Makes the case easier to handle for us ...
