840s were purchased in Nov 2014. The 850s are from late 2015. The OCZs were from mid 2015 IIRC. Seagates have only been in use for ~6 months for backups. Drives were used to host VM's varying all over the board. Never ran in raid though, always single.

Sent you a PM about buying servers alone without drives.
    Thanks!

  • A couple machines have been sold. For those wanting to buy without drives, please subtract $50 per 250G and $100 per 500G drive.

  • Mind pming what you have left over?

  • Maybe Google Docs with spreadsheet with public read access and whats available would help people asking about inventory

Bought from him before, had some issues with UPS playing a game of drop the servers. He worked with me and sent me a new batch of servers. Extremely nice, and very helpful.

PM'ed, but for all others, only one of the 1230v3 w/ 4x hot swap has sold so far with discussion between others currently.

Yeah, looking like this might be the best route. Will get this updated tonight. Thanks for the suggestion since I can't modify the post.

Can't be sure I guess, but I live on a computer, and live by my reputation. I have dealt with quite a bit of people on here over the years of my stay. I'm not going anywhere. Posted has been approved by Ishaq for what it matters.

Thank you for the kind words. Did my best on that one, and moving forward I am FedEx only. >_>.

  • @Riz maybe you can recommend some colocation too near your server location

Cyberwurx has been nothing but awesome for me (which is where these are), and there are also quite a few other providers in 55/56 Marietta which would make this fairly easy. Connectivity is pretty good to Europe from here as well. I believe their sales email is [email protected].

  • I don't need another server, but I totally want one... if only I could find a good, and reasonably priced colocation service on the west coast USA.

@AlyssaD IIRC StealthyHosting had a deal in the past for Colo in Seattle. LAX is so populated that I'm suprised there aren't any companies dealing out colo.

Created a spread sheet with current inventory. Will consider reasonable offers for anything that is multiples.

    Budget?

$75 or less with 100mbps unmetered, 1 amp, 2 hours free remote hands per month ( I am going to rarely use this at all.) /28 ipv4, /64 ipv6, and 1 extra ipv4 / line for ipmi.

I have had services such as this for less else where in case you think it is under priced.

  • I wonder why some lowest colocation have higher price than pricing of dedicated server rent?

for example if I look on dacentec, the price of Supermicro 4-bay 2xL5420 16GB 2x1TB RTO is $40 / month. If I have server with exactly same specs and want to coloc with dacentec, I think I need to pay $40 / month base on their pricing. Is it better if I just rent the server from them and I don't have worry about issue like as disk failure? If I have server myself, I need to buy new disk myself, don't I?

I have opinion that if I want to take my server on colocation, I think the spec should be as high as possible so I can save money, because if I rent the same spec to the provider, it take much more money than the colocation price...

  • @akhfa said:

    1. Quality and location of datacenter matters. Colocation and hosting in the middle of nowhere like Dacentec is going to be cheaper than multi-homed colocation in the heart of New York.

    2. Density matters. Many dedicated server deals are in high-density setups. This lets you save a lot of space and thus, money.

    3. Colocation is expensive and a lot of work for small clients. Racking, remote hands, visits, etc. For 1-2U colocation, it is almost always going to be more expensive than renting. Colocation only starts to really save money in one of the two scenarios:
      a) You have a very expensive server hardware setup in 1-2U. Even then, renting can be cheaper because you don't have to deal with hardware failures.
      b) You have a minimum of a full rack (maybe half rack) colocated. At this point, you start to breakeven or save even if your hardware is older/cheaper

    4. Target audience. 1-2U Colocation is generally geared towards businesses who are more security oriented or have special needs. There's no need for this race to the bottom like there is in the hobbyist dedicated server market. Profit margins are already pretty low in the industry because of the price competitions, so colocation will almost never be worth it unless you are in the situations described above.

He's too short to be a scamming asshole. Also, the machine I bought from him is still working well.

  • PM sent.

  • BTW do they come with IPMI?

  • @AlyssaD - IPMI is onboard on all X9/X10 boards, so yes. All machines listed have a dedicated port for it.

  • Sent this via PM as well, but probably easier to ask here so everyone sees - do they come with RAID?
