[Debian or Ubuntu] - Question about built in drivers

What debian based desktop distro is better as an all-in-one system for newbies, regarding the hardware driver database? Witch desktop distro would be the best to automatically recognizes more hardware?

I was not able to find much differences between debian and ubuntu regarding hardware support for desktop/laptop. The usual wifi and video problems.
If you have exotic multimedia stuff, try ubuntu studio. Other than that, plain debian for desktop, opensuse/ubuntu laptop are my choices.
