Frustration over Digital Oceans “Failed NAS” Backup
Hi LowEndTalk,
I wanted to share my recent experience with Digital Ocean here to the community in response to their “Failed NAS Backups” In their NY1 facility. Yesterday, I was attempting to restore my backups on one of my two virtual servers when I noticed they were unavailable to me on Digital Ocean’s control panel backend. After contacting their support I was provided the bad news that on the 17th of March their NAS has failed and all of my backup data has been lost.
While I understand technology can sometimes fail I am shocked that such a well known/marketed brand (which obviously has a lot of money) allows for such terrible disaster recovery procedures. Then to top off this situation, the blog post which I was given a link to on http://www.digitaloceanstatus.com/ indicates that future backups will now COST 20% of the monthly virtual server bill, so not only did they loose my data they now want me to pay for the backup service which I find to be insulting.
After hearing this terrible news I decided to resort to LowEndBox to find some providers which offer automated backup services, I also intend on setting up FTP backup using the Cpanel remote FTP option.
Here are a few providers which offer automated backups including in the price:
ECVPS *Automated offsite backups, RAID1 local storage
1 CPU Core / 10 GB DiskSpace / 512MB RAM / 512MB Burst / 500GB Bandwidth OpenVZ/SolusVM / $5.95/Month

VPS Ace *Automated offsite backups, includes RAID10 with SSD Caching
30 GB SSD/RAID 10 / 1000 GB Bandwidth / Equal CPU Share
OpenVZ/SolusVM / $8.00/Month

PzEa *Weekly backups included, RAID 10 Storage.
512M RAM / 20GB RAID10 Diskspace / 500 GB Bandwidth
KVM/SolusVM / $6.5/Month – Code LEB2013

Upon reviewing all of the offers I wanted to get a location closest to New York where Digital Ocean is located so I decided on VPS Ace. I will be writing a review in about one month to give everyone an update.

@BronzeByte I believe he's sharing his opinion/experience on the matter discussed in that thread, if I understand correctly.
I don't see what the issue is, im sure storing TBs of backups for them isn't cheap.
Why?
I don't get the point, DO also offered backups, but they screwed them up, why do you think a LEB provider won't?
He could have done that in the existing thread or cest pit, but this looks like an announcement of an upcoming review. Like a personal blog, lol.
They offered backups for free, I agree with horton on this one, this is a joke. Yes TB's cost alot of money but they should have decided this in the beginning as part of their business plan.

I know, that link is redundant, and so is this thread.
