I used to know someone who had a panix.com email back in the day...

I think you're all undervaluing the service here...sure, Amazon S3 is 1/10th the price, but if you run low on space will they lend you some more? I didn't think so. And remember, your data has a "hot spare".

Specs aside, $5/mo for shared isn't a bad price. I mean, yes, if you want to nitpick details you can complain about 2GB disk, 1GB bandwidth but really, its's shared. No one reads your blog anyway.

Actually...wait. What if I have 2GB of files? I guess I can only let someone see half my site at most before I'm topping off at $1/GB.

You know, I'm not a provider, but if anyone wants that service, PM me because I'll start a company for someone who'll pay those rates.

Finally, I'd like to point out that @impossiblyStupid 's utopian ideal has been achieved. No exploitation of the third world here - their consulting rates start at $250 an hour. Though "Certain standard operations may be less". So if it's something they run into all the time - like Netscape Navigator not loading Lycos correctly - you might get a break.

I think that's a sign of strong demand. High price + limited supply = Strong Demand.

  • if you rich, just purchase, then test it your self. It's only $100/y
