1GB KVM VPS for $6.99/mo. - 1GB Xen VPS for $6.99/mo. Xeon E5 HW RAID 10 Free DNS and DoS Protection

We are bringing you once more our most popular packages at $6.99/month: The 1GB Xen and KVM Enterprise packages. As a bonus you will also get Free DDoS Protection and Free Enterprise Level Managed DNS service.

A few words about how our DDoS protection works and why it is important to have it: the DDoS protection that we offer works at the network level so attacks are intercepted and mitigated there before they get to the application level (i.e. your web server). There is no interruption in your service (unless multiple consecutive attacks take place, then we suspend your server for a few minutes. If the attacks persist we can assign you a new IP address and null route your old one. Because attacks are mitigated at the network level we do not keep detailed logs of them.

About our DNS service: we offer free DNS service with each VPS, and each customer can host up to 500 domains with our free DNS service.

Our DNS servers are:
kip.ns.vpsnodebox.net - Phoenix, AZ
lyn.ns.vpsnodebox.net - Chicago, IL
ben.ns.vpsnodebox.net - Denver, CO
gin.ns.vpsnodebox.net - Munster, DE

Frequently Asked Question:

  • Q: Why is my first invoice more than $7 or less than $7? How does your billing work?

A: Our billing system is prorated around the middle of each month. We do this in order to align customer with the first day of each month for their next invoice due date. For instance if you order service before the middle of January then your total at checkout will be less than $7 and your next invoice will be due on February 1st. If your order after the middle of January then you will be billed for the remainder of January and also for February and your next invoice will be due on March 1st.

  • Q: What is the difference between the Xen Business Package and Xen Enterprise Package?

A: We deploy the Xen Business Package VPS servers on smaller nodes with more storage and less CPU power (Intel Xeon E3), while we deploy the Xen Enterprise Package VPS servers on larger nodes (Intel Xeon E5) with a little bit less storage, more CPU power and faster I/O speeds.

  • Q: Why is there a limit for the network speed? Is this per server or per VPS?

A: The network speed limit is per VPS and we do this in order to avoid network congestion. This way we can ensure that all our customers get a decent amount of network traffic 24/7.

  • Q: Can I deploy IRC or VPN services? What about torrenting?

A: If you wish to deploy IRC or VPN services on our network just open a support ticket to let us know. We will give you our written consent. Torrenting of copyrighted materials or engaging in other illegal activities is not allowed.

  • Q: How many IPv4 addresses can I get with my VPS? What about IPv6?

A: Our lowest VPS packages come with 1 IPv4 address, while our higher end VPS packages come with up to 12 IPv4 addresses. Because IPv4 space is limited, you will need to provide a written justificatio (in a support ticket) for each additional IPv4 address that you request over the default addresses that you are assigned. If you need IPv6 please open a support ticket and we will assign your VPS a /64 IPv6 block from Hurricane Electric.

If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask.

  • vpsnodebox, really?

  • marcmmarcm Member

    @blergh_ - really what?

  • What provider do you use for DDoS protection?

  • the name, it's kinda like automobilecartransport.com - hilarious, in a bad way.

  • marcmmarcm Member

@blergh_ - Get over it and grow up. It's a good name, very SEO friendly.

@serverian - We have mitigation built in at the network level (level 3 OSI). The biggest attack that we have shielded one of customers from was slightly over 5.58Gbps and the attacker it four times before he gave up. We don't use a third party provider for DDoS protection if that's what you are referring to. Considering that I have seen a 5Gbps attack bring Turnkeyinternet.com to its knees in December 2010, I'd say that we are doing pretty good.

so you basically automatically detect and null the IP at the router level ...

  • marcmmarcm Member
    edited March 2013

@goexodus - No, the attack is mitigated. I can null it if it keeps repeating time after time but most attackers give up after the first few attempts.

By the way, there is such thing as "at the router level". There is "at the network level" - according to the OSI stack.

so you detect and redirect the traffic to some kind of cisco appliance for filtering before you go to next level and null IP

@goexodus - I just explained it, however if you want to keep guessing then I won't try to stop you.

  • Can you add windows on the KVM or XEN?
    Do you allow video encoding?

  • @marcm price for a 64mb xen with ddos protection?

if some body is using this service, please provide a dd and ioping test result.

  • marcmmarcm Member

@Ruriko - No Windows support at all, however you can do video encoding, run gaming servers, what ever you want to do is allowed as long it is legal.

@dmmcintyre3 - We don't have plans that small. Our smallest plan is 512MB plan, and we are considering dumping that one as well in favor of the 1GB plan.

    @niceboy - one example here: http://serverbear.com/benchmark/2012/10/30/dtl4FzyWMjxL9TfK

People run less Server Bear benchmarks than they used to, and I'm actually glad because tons of people running them at the same time is never good for those folks who need their VPS for actual work.

  • I have 1 Xen & 1 KVM from their previous offer on Lowendbox (same with this offer) for more than 1 month.

    Here my benchmark:
    Xen: http://serverbear.com/benchmark/2013/02/20/xJSZayNMVTY5Rue2
    KVM: http://serverbear.com/benchmark/2013/02/20/7qAZ2GxnUmiVgz8p

Unixbench is normal. I/O is good. I don't know their CPU model on KVM node. It's strange that 6 CPU Xen has much lower score than 2 CPU KVM. The support is good, sometime it's slow, sometime it's fast (my timezone is +7 GMT). But I trust these guys for the way they explain things.

I guess its bad to ask for clarification on a rather important competitive differentiation of your offering ... which sound to me as ... lets say weird ... i pass

@tdc_adm - Xen scores are always lower, not just for us but for every other hosting provider that is offering Xen VPS servers. This is because Xen always keeps a large reserve of CPU power (so to speak) available. This is why we don't even need to cap CPU usage on Xen. We don't can it on KVM either, but instead we just allocate less cores per VPS.

@goexodus - Lets just say that you have a VPS with us and a DoS or DDoS attack takes place against your VPS. The attack gets mitigated at the network level. Unless it is repeated many times and we need to null the IP for a while, you won't be even bothered.

We just had two consecutive attacks against one of our customers, and incidentally this was the largest yet, over 10Gbps:

    Target IP(s): XXX.XX.XXX.XX
    Attack Start: 2013-03-06 02:48:
    Attack Size: 10.58 Gbps
    Attack Type: IP_Fragment_Misuse

    Target IP(s): XXX.XX.XXX.XX
    Attack Start: 2013-03-06_02:49:42
    Attack Size: 10.75_Gbps
    Attack Type: UDP_Misuse_

We didn't even bother our customer with this information since he experienced zero downtime. Now if you want to pass on protection like this for free, then I am really sorry for you, because I doubt that you will find anything much better than this for zero dollars.

If anyone's still curious, from some googling this is lingo from Arbor Networks Peakflow SP. :) You can even watch a video presentation of how it works there on that page.

@rm_ - I wish the "Thanks" button was back :-) ... anyway, thank you for the link.

  • I want Business Xen VPS Hosting.

Securedservers network is protected by such a device.

  • vic.ns.vpsnodebox.net did not respond.

  • @marcm What's wrong with http://www.vpsnodebox.com ? I can't access it for more than 1 week. It redirected to http://www.phoenixvps.com but http://www.phoenixvps.com is also down now.

@tdc_adm - We're moving things around and we didn't want to put the main site back up until everything is ready. The portal is working and has always been working at https://my.phoenixvps.com. And announcement is coming as well.

  • @marcm Ok, you should email your clients about this change. I has confused.
