Best way to advertise your site?

taronyutaronyu Member
edited March 2013 in Help

I always see everyone with sites that are being visited 1000 times a day. Because of some reason I just can't get my site being visited regularly.

My current site is a radio located on F63.net (if you are going to say something about the lay-out read the last part of this post) and I'm advertising it on 2 forums (with this topic on 3) and I only get a few visitors a day.

What am I doing wrong?

Layout -> I can remember I saw a provider somewhere selling really cheap and small vps'es and their site was nothing more than a little ascii art and a order form. Not sure if it was a legal host but I liked the simplicity of that layout so much I decided to create something like that for my radio also. Doesn't need to be awesome, it needs to work :)

  • Best way? Pay for advertising.

  • Well, it's a radio station, who listens to those online these days?

I prefer online over FM/AM tbh.

Don't mind paying something. But what is the best site and way to do it?

    Site advertising, forums, contacts?

Since you have no readable content for the googlebot, I guess SEO is out of the question. But how about you market your radio on forums that are all about the music your radio plays? And create short clips of music on youtube, people might be searching for the music and then learn about your radio. Use social media to keep them engaged after they already like your radio and maybe reach some of their friends.

There are enough possibilities as long as you have enough time on your hands, of course you could pay for advertising but that would only make sense if you made some money with the radio or at least are planning on making money with it.

If you're willing to change your layout or site all together, you should keep the simplicity but instead of dark colors I would use light colors because people have to keep your site open in order to listen. It's a proven fact people don't like to be at dark colored sites and usually close them much quicker.

If you'd add some content to your site about the radio then people could find you through Google.

    P.s. I'm sorry this reply's a mess, I'm tired.

Don't worry, best post right now. Thanks :)

  • Paying for advertising these days is one of the best ways. You can advertise in local newspaper columns etc to target certain audiences and gain hits as a result.

Why don't you setup a forum, or a blog?

Best way to advertise your site?

bump up a lot of old threads to get your post count over 5 so you can post a free offer on LET? //sarcasm

  • The first mistake was paying for Wavestreaming, when you can run an Icecast server on a box managed by yourself with less limits.

I tried paying for a tweet the a large audience the other day - hopeless.

I never paid for wavestreaming, neither did I for shoutcast.

  • marcmmarcm Member

@jhadley - Tweets don't work, I tried that as well. If you have a strong stomach you can try controversy; I know a hosting company located in the northern mid-west of the United States that controversy has worked for... for a while at least.

Get on Google as many times as you possibly can. People will then be bound to click on your site more often.

I rather like the simplicity of your site. Seems like it has rather a niche market, so why not target places where your target audience might go, like specific clothing shops, shops specialising in vinyl music, independent record shops. I've never tried it myself, but Facebook advertising lets you be incredibly targetted according to people's preferences in their profiles. You could only deliver advertising to hardstyle and dubstep music fans.

  • I said in response to ZonedHost bumping the thread "bump up a lot of old threads to get your post count over 5 so you can post a free offer on LET? //sarcasm"

    and I was right! LOL

  • @taronyu Ah sorry, the player was from wavestreaming so I thought you were hosting with them. Costs way too much so I just wanted to look out that's all.

  • @Maurice

Nah I'm using the free player. Might be interrested in icecast because it is totally free. Right now I don't got enough listeners to put some real effort into it.

  • @mark i like it too, working on a few simple front end services with just a page, hope he Keeps trying..

  • @taronyu i am working with some companies right now that have exploded in the past year. One main word comes to mind.. Social. Social media, social marketing, social campaigns, podcasts, Pinterest, facebook, twitter, sharing and most of all... Social!
