VPS host question.

DarrenDarren Member

Hi, I have a question about a VPS host, The staff said all there Servers are located in accelerated.de datacenter but when i check the server ip it bring up this

http://bgp.he.net/AS34549#_prefixes

I am just wondering are they lying about where the vps is located?

Server IP: 5.1.91.200

The server has a lot of packet loss and it can not even handle 5 people in it

Gosh. Everyone is just getting dumber and dumber. Why would you publicly post your IP address?

... and if it can't handle 5 connections, either 1) you lack the adequate resources or 2) the provider is overselling the network extremely.

I dont mind people seeing the IP as it is ment to be protected from ddos but not that it really matters with the packet loss i am getting, I will be changing host i just wanted to know if they are lying or not with where there servers are located.

  • Yes, I strongly believe its a German server that you have.

    it's in Germany alright ..

traceroute from London indicates it's Voxility DDoS protection:

traceroute to 5.1.91.200 (5.1.91.200), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets
     1 * * *
     2 * * *
     3 5.158.213.45 (5.158.213.45) 2.167 ms 2.160 ms 2.150 ms

     5 lon-tel-01c.voxility.net (5.254.107.85) 0.642 ms 0.688 ms 0.733 ms
     6 fra-in3-01c.voxility.net (37.221.169.205) 15.236 ms 15.249 ms 15.215 ms
     7 voxility.fra2.meerfarbig.net (37.221.169.18) 13.398 ms 13.360 ms 13.835 ms
     8 iris.edge.fra1.meerfarbig.net (80.77.16.116) 14.347 ms 14.749 ms 14.786 ms
     9 185.44.106.3 (185.44.106.3) 13.397 ms 13.791 ms 13.399 ms
    10 5.1.91.200 (5.1.91.200) 13.868 ms 14.168 ms 13.667 ms

what kind of issues are you having with it?

Sorry for screaming at you there - I'm just fed up that all the new members keep posting crap.

I checked the WHOIS for the IP and I traced it back to AS34549. They are in Germany and are peered with Voxility probably for the protection.

That's ok doghouch, Thanks for looking. The problem is mik997 when i had a VPS from them before the IP was with accelerated.de and the IP started with 84. but the ip i have with them now is not the same and i used to get no packet loss on the accelerated.de IP but they told me the VPS is still in the same datacenter so maybe its a new IP because there peered with Voxlility for the ddos protection?

Thanks for the help guys :)

well that makes sense because the new IP you have been allocated is from their Voxility DDoS protected subnet

do you have any controls for the DDoS protection i.e. can you disable the filtering to see whether is makes any difference to your application? how are you measuring packet loss? have you opened a support ticket with the provider?
