GitHub - ∞ Private Repositories for a LowEndFlatFee!

edited May 2016 in General

GitHub just changed from their previous pricing plans with different tiers for different number of private repositories to just a plan with ∞ private repos!

New pricing plan:

Personal: $7/month

>

Organization: $9/user/month, $25/month for your first five users

Sounds good to me, might move my larger repos there instead of selfhosting on a NAT VPS w/ Gogs!

Hope this post was useful for those who didn't like the previous price plans :)

Personally I'd prefer a price point below $84/year. If they offered a $49/year plan with limits, I'd be more interested.

I don't have, and probably will never have, a need for unlimited repositories.

Tell us more about your 1.44MB repositories...

I already get unlimited free repositories at GitLab and BitBucket - without a time limit. I'm surprised it took GitHub this long to introduce this.

BitBucket has the LET price of $0/year with all features for teams of up to 5 members. Kinda hard to beat.

    • Gitlab immediately posts about it The future of SaaS hosted Git repository pricing. Saying its the future of pricing git saas pricing.

I love both github and gitlab, with unlimited repo, I might interest to put my private repo on github instead self hosted gitlab.

      git init --bare my_project.git

Currently many businesses have to archive old projects, either to disk or to other services (i.e Bitbucket). I see there being a large increase in private repo's at Github, but mostly these will be inactive. For example how many individuals have more than say 5 active private projects at any time?

I look forward to never having to move around a repo, either to another Github users account or migrating it to Bitbucket. :)

Not a good day for Atlassian I imagine.

Just got an idea, can we use this as an unlimited file storage space? I guess there is no restriction on what kind of file you can store in the git right?

    • I'm not sure how I've never come across CommitStrip before, but thanks for sharing. They're all hilarious!

Would you mind upgrading yourself to the latest hot hot technology. ZIP drives. /s

    • I still prefer gitlab self hosting to github and it's been working well for me since the past three years. Nothing beats the level of control of self hosted git repos.
