Impact VPS | High Storage Server Open Beta

edited May 2016 in General

We are getting ready to launch a new KVM high storage server line in our Seattle location. Was hoping the community might be willing to help us test out any remaining bugs in the system before it fully launches.

Details:

Location: Seattle

Plan Details:

2 Cores
1 GB RAM
250GB HDD
SSD Cached
KVM

Nodes are connected at 10Gbps.

Order link: https://subnetlabs.com/billing/cart.php?a=add&pid=65 (manually approved)

There is a $1 setup fee for fraud checking that will be refunded at the end of the test. It likely will not be very long but we would really appreciate any feedback you have. Those that participate in the beta AND provide feedback will receive either some discount or something compensation wise towards the future product.

Known issues: Network breaks on reinstall (cause identified, fix in progress). If you need to reinstall open a ticket in the meantime.

AUP: Nothing illegal, don't be a dick(tm) with io, no mass mail, standard stuff. If you have to ask if its allowed you probably shouldn't run it.

*don't be a dick policy(tm) inspired by Tim from Hostigation

  • Custom panel?

    ISO boot?

Decent RAM allocation. That's nice to see.

Not custom yet. You can boot from ISOs if you choose but by default it clones from a template for faster installation and automatic configuration (including automatic resizing of disk and filesystem on upgrades).

  • Would you do custom plans once it launches? Might be interested in a smaller disk server if that's doable. Also how do I provide feedback? Already got stuff to complain.

Not sure about custom plans but there will be cheaper yearly plans at launch.

For feedback either open a ticket or you can simply message me here. Easier if you ticket though so I have easy reference to provide the bonus later.

Looks good, just ordered one to give it a try.

Got mine. Will try to run a backup script for a heavy website to test.

Ordered. Can't wait to see the pricing when it's released so I can possibly cancel some other less stable VPSs. :)

@Awmusic12635 interesting offering, I've got a few questions for you about this:

    • How long will this trial run for?
    • Will there be an option to continue with this as a paid service (and at what price)?
    • Is this like your other KVM offerings in terms of being moderately dedicated resources?
    • Any chance we can buy a block of KVM resources (like we do with VDR on OpenVZ) and dynamically allocate/reallocate them?
  • Awmusic12635Awmusic12635 Member, Host Rep

Dan said: How long will this trial run for?

No set end date at this time but it likely will not be very long.

Dan said: Will there be an option to continue with this as a paid service (and at what price)?

Yes there will be. Pricing is not final yet but those that participate AND provide feedback will be given some compensation towards it or reduced pricing.

Dan said: Is this like your other KVM offerings in terms of being moderately dedicated resources?

Disk is dedicated, CPU is fair share and not 100% dedicated like the other KVM offering.

Dan said: Any chance we can buy a block of KVM resources (like we do with VDR on OpenVZ) and dynamically allocate/reallocate them?

Not at this time but perhaps in the long term.

Wow, Looks like there was way more interest in this than I expected. I have put the beta product out of stock for the moment. I may add more later

  • Glad I got signed up when I did! I will test it out and load some stuff on it tomorrow.

Is there any io limits in place?

I think you should just hard limit the IO. Fair share is good for the normal people, but there are always someone who will abuse it and slow down others

I can't help but feel that the way you put seems like i am going to abuse the IO.

I am just asking a normal question.

  • excellent performance so far.

Thanks for the benchmark. While the node has a 10G port, servers don't have access to the full port. It is mainly used to ensure there is plenty of bandwidth available for all servers
